Subject: Chord Req: John Doyle - bitter the parting From: Gillies Date: 18 May 07 - 10:02 PM Hi I'm looking for the chords/lyrics to a couple of songs by John Doyle. The first is on his 'Wayward Son' album, called "bitter the parting" which he shares vocals with the wonderful Kate Rusby. The second tune I'm looking for is track 2 on 'Evening comes early' and the track's called "the blue diamond mines" which may or may not be a trad Appalachian tune? Cheers |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: John Doyle - bitter the parting From: Severn Date: 20 May 07 - 08:24 AM I've not heard "evening Comes Early", though I have the other one. The "Blue Diamond Mines" that I'm familiar with was written by Jean Ritchie (kytrad on Mudcat, should you want to try to PM). She has recorded it on the LPs "A Time For Singing" and "Clear Waters Remembered". Most of "A Time..." found its way on to CD on the Rhino Handmade CD "Mountain Hearth & Home" and the Song served as the title tune to The Johnson Mountain Boys CD "Blue Diamond" on Rounder. The publishing rights are held by Geordie Music Publishing Co. Hope this all helps. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: John Doyle - bitter the parting From: Severn Date: 20 May 07 - 09:13 AM "Bitter..." is written by Doyle himself, published by Setanta music and the words themselves are in the CD booklet for Wayward Son" If you can't come up with them or nobody else does, I might make the effort later with more time on my hands. |

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chord Req: Bitter the Parting (John Doyle) From: GUEST Date: 17 Jan 11 - 10:59 PM I came up with Cmi, Bbmaj, Abmaj, G (not sure about the G, I'm sure there's a crazy 9 in there or something). But you can start there! It basically just repeats that progression over and over, with a few exceptions... |
Subject: Chords Add: BITTER THE PARTING (John Doyle) From: GUEST Date: 12 Mar 11 - 04:09 PM Something like this: Capo 3 Ami G Dmi Emi With a red rose in Summer, the leaves soft and green Ami G Dmi Emi You walked without speaking your arm held in mine Dmi C Emi And the Ion dubh was singing as we passed by Ami G F Emi Ami Bitter the parting of lovers entwined He's playing an F in the bass over the Dmi - you could sub an F but the Dmi/F sounds better. It's pretty fluid the way John plays it, but totally workable. Mind you that hes also using an open tuning, standard tuning won't sound as rich and bass heavy. good luck |
