Subject: Chord Req: Need simple Irish folk music tab music From: kerryguy7 Date: 19 May 07 - 11:22 AM As some of you already know, I am in the process of "re-learning" to play (with some sort of proficiency) the acoustic guitar. I have been taking some lessons and in the course of discussing my goals with my instructor I mentioned to him that I wanted to eventually learn to play some Irish folk music. (Read that as your typical pub/session style music). He suggested that I get ahold of some tab sheets for what I want to play. Heres the rub...as they say. I need something fairly easy to play. I'm still in the process of relearning most of the major chords as well as building up those infamous callouses on my fingers! :) OK...any suggestions? Once again I thank all of you old pros in advance for your help and advice. Peace! Kerryguy7 a.k.a. Tom |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: Need simple Irish folk music tab music From: GUEST,Jim Date: 19 May 07 - 11:42 AM Most of the Irish sessions I've been at play mostly fiddle tunes and not many vocals. If this is what you're after, the Fiddler's Fake Book has a lot of Irish fiddle tunes and the chords are indicated for guitarists. It does not have tab, however. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Need simple Irish folk music tab music From: Peace Date: 19 May 07 - 01:38 PM IRISH MUSIC TABS Google that. Lots there. With tabs. Various degrees of difficulty. ****************************************************** Shaneo: that is one of the best music sites I have ever encountered on the www. Clean, informative, easy to navigate. Absolutely beautiful, and very obviously a labour of love. It also has the song I love best, so extra thanks for that. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Need simple Irish folk music tab mu From: kerryguy7 Date: 20 May 07 - 08:21 AM Thanks Shaneo! That is just what I was looking for! Your site is a great resource and, obviously, indeed a "labor of love" as one of the other members here so rightly said. Best to you! |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: Need simple Irish folk music tab music From: Shaneo Date: 20 May 07 - 09:07 AM Thank you all for the kind words about the site ,I do try to keep it simple , 3 chords for the most of them. When musicians come looking for songs with chords and they see a load of G#m + F# this that and the other ,they then go away and think the songs are too difficult. As most of you are aware almost every song can be played using just three chords , and then as you become more advanced you add a few other chords to make a song more interesting. It would be good to have a link to the site from Mudcat , in the links section ,but I applied a few times in the last year without success ,[this is not a gripe against who looks after links] Martin |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: Need simple Irish folk music tab music From: SouthernCelt Date: 20 May 07 - 10:41 AM Shaneo, I've bookmarked your site. Great! As I write this I'm listening to an Irish collection and noticed in my brief visit to your site to check it out that it has a lot of these old songs with lyrics. That'll be a good source as I expand my Irish base. SC |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: Need simple Irish folk music tab music From: Big Mick Date: 20 May 07 - 12:03 PM Tom (kerryguy7) take some time to learn a few minor chords to add to Shaneo's excellent tab. They really aren't that difficult and add some very nice nuances to your music. Don't be afraid of them. Learn the three chords, then learn to add the IIm and the VIm. Example: if you learn to play in C-F-G with C being the first chord, then IIm would be Dm and VIm would be Am. This works well with ballads or tinkley music. I know you are in the beginning stages and when I get home in July, I would be happy to help you out in your studies. Best to you and the family, Mick |
