You're standin' on me foot Captain!

is about the only line I remember.. 60s probably... a 'novelty' song.

Seem to remember something about Captain Bligh... ??!!

... and the tune too, if possible

Sounds like the punch line, or at least the key line, of a gag or routine (Stanley Holloway, as I recall) such as "Pick up the musket, Sam!"

You are right about Bligh.
I remember the line from the 1935 film "Mutiny on the Bounty" with Charles Laughton playing Captain Bligh and Clark Gable playing Fletcher Christian. (Won Oscar for Best Picture.)
My memory recalls Bligh on the deck standing on a sailor's foot, with the sailor exclaiming "You're standin' on my foot Captain".
To which Bligh says, "Then cut off his foot Mr Christian."

Frank - I seem to remember that the song seemed to be similar to that idea - but it was a song I am sure I heard when young - would have to be 50-60s while I was living in a contry town I moved from in 1967.

There's mutiny on the bounty, and the captain wears a frown
they pulled out the plug where the hole belongs
and the ship is going down, down, down

Any luck? Could it be a child's memory of one thing (the line from the movie) being filtered through other things that were also there (a lot of folk music) so although you firmly recall a song with that line, there never was one, really? That would bite, it sounds like a fun'n. Do you remember anything else about the circumstances under which you heard it, maybe relatives, who might help with the search? I would love to see the rest of the lyrics.

I remember the song pretty well. It was in the hit parades about 1953. I don't know who sang it but I've been trying to find it for years.   This person (with a very English accent), keeps complaining that the captain is standing on his foot, and the captain finally says: "Cut off his foot, Mister Christian."   In the background the chorus keeps singing: "...and the ship is going down, down, down, down...and the ship is going down."
If you find out any more, I'm on ruglen@tpg.com.au    Regards, John. South Australia. 26.12.2017.

This is a good source for Hit-Parade.

Sincerely,

I browsed for an amusing hour...but no sign of Bounty anywhere

You're standing on my foot, captain.
Well cut off his foot, Mr Christian.
And the ship is going down, down
and the ship is going down.

1950s. Great song, but I can't remember the name. You might find in Top 100 lists from the 50.
