I am in financial dire straits and need to sell an Original 1961 Gibson Les Paul SG Custom (3 paf90 pickups)

Bigsby tremolo

superb condition.

I don't want to be ripped off.

Any guitar valuers out there?

Any links to reputable guitar valuers?

Cheers folks.

Hi, Lox -
It's probably a good idea to specify what country or what part of the country you live in. Shipping would be an issue, I think.

Gruhn guitars in Nashville is a good place. They can provide appraisals remotely if you provide them with some good jpg's.

Incidentally, Les Paul had his name removed from it, so it IS a Gibson, but not a Les Paul. (That might be important in terms of selling it.)

So if it's early enough to have Les Paul's name on it, does that mean it's worth Megabucks?

FWIW...

"In late 1960, the body style was changed to what is now known as the SG (solid guitar) body style. The Les Paul logo was still applied on the peghead...In 1961, the [logo] was put on the truss rod cover...In 1963, the Les Paul was renamed SG standard." Blue Book of Electric Guitars, 9th edition.

Mint condition: $8000
60% condition: $3400

Peace, Mooh.

Sorry about the double post.
When Gibson redesigned the Les Paul single cutaway to a double cutaway in 1961 they did so without the permission of Les Paul and he refused to endorse it or allow his name to be attached. The dispute was resolved by Gibson removing his name and calling it an SG model. The true Les Paul is a single cutaway and the body style has been unchanged since the early 1950's.

Mine is first year of production, and as such one of just 315 made in that year.

Les pauls name hadn,t been removed yet so it is what we would describe as an SG today but it has the les paul tag at the pick up end of the fret board.

It's the white one with the three gold pick ups.

I'm based in the UK

If I get a chance I'll post a pic on mudcat.

Excellent condition.

Some frets replaced, refinished in early 80's, bridge replaced by over eager engineer without my consent in the 90's.

Everything else original.

Plays and sounds sublime.

Nigel from spinal tap would definitely not let anyone touch it.

It will be missed, but it must make way for the needs of my other baby, my real baby, as times are hard right now.

I was privileged to have it, now it's someone elses turn.
