Subject: Judy Cook - heartily recomended! From: Steve Parkes Date: 09 Apr 99 - 03:36 AM I saw Judy Cook last night. "Folksinger, unaccompanied traditional American songs and ballads", it says on her business card; which sums it up very well. It doesn't say she is utterly brill, but she is, and I'll say it! She dropped in to the Bedford Folk Club last night, where we had a sing-around. She's touring in the UK at the moment, and details are on her website, http://ceimd.com/folksing.htm, so all us UK 'Catters have an opportunity to see and hear her. Judy is an excellent singer, and has a lot of background gen. on her material. Go and see her! Oh, and Dennis wasn't bad either (I presume Mr Cook, although I didn't ask; he helped set up the Mudcat, so more power to his elbow). Steve

Subject: RE: Judy Cook - heartily recomended! From: Joe Offer Date: 09 Apr 99 - 03:57 AM Judy made it to most of the same events I hit in Washington, DC, last month, so I got to hear her sing several songs. She has the kind of voice that makes you drop everything and PAY ATTENTION. WOW!!! She said she is going to have a CD out soon. I assumed it was her first, but I found out this week that she has an album called If You Sing Songs... on the Folk-Legacy label. I don't think it's listed at the Folk-Legacy Records Web site, but you can order it from Sandy & Caroline at (800)836-0901 or at the Web site. Judy told how much she liked my singing. Whether it was truthful or not, it made me an instant fan. There was a house concert at Judy's my last night in DC, and I had planned to go; but I had to interview a job applicant who had been giving me the runaround. At the end of the concert, that applicant asked, "Now, what job is this interview for, anyhow?" I shoulda gone to the concert. Whatever the case, I have to say there sure is a lot of good singing to be heard in DC. Heck, if you're lucky, you might even hear Charlie Baum sing tuva music. Charlie's good, but you people in the UK are getting DC's best. Judy is a wonderful singer. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Judy Cook - heartily recomended! From: Ferrara Date: 09 Apr 99 - 06:34 AM Amen to all that!!! -- She's also a wonderful cook, with a small "c" (as is Dennis), and a gracious hostess and warm hearted friend. |
Subject: RE: Judy Cook - heartily recomended! From: bbc Date: 09 Apr 99 - 10:16 AM I'll just add my agreement to what's been said. I knew Dennis & Judy in a previous lifetime, when I lived in DC & before I was into folk music. Both are the finest kind of people. "If You Sing Songs..." is available on CD from Folk Legacy; Dennis & Judy produced it at home. Thanks for the website, Steve. I just had the email address-- Judy@ceimd.com. best, bbc |
Subject: RE: Judy Cook - heartily recomended! From: AlistairUK Date: 09 Apr 99 - 10:48 AM Hey Steve, you go to Bedford Folk Club! Is Bill prince still about? I used to get over there from Luton from Time to time, but not on any regular basis as I had other commitments on the club night. |
