Subject: Looking for Fred Weisz From: Celtaddict Date: 05 Jun 07 - 11:12 PM A friend and I are looking for a bluegrass player named Fred Weisz; I do find mention of him one time on the 'Cat, when Rick Fielding said he sometimes played with the Greenbriar Boys back when. Does anybody have any idea what became of him or where he might be now? |
Subject: RE: Looking for Fred Weisz From: katlaughing Date: 05 Jun 07 - 11:19 PM Joybell's "Hildebrand" was looking for him, just recently. I found on online, but it wasn't him. You might check with them, see if Hildebrand ever found him. |
Subject: RE: Looking for Fred Weisz From: Celtaddict Date: 05 Jun 07 - 11:22 PM Joybell/Hildebrand is the friend also looking! This is NOT the Fred Weisz who died April 6, 2007. This Fred Weisz also played with Goose Creek Symphony, the Garrett Mountain Boys, and the Even Dozen Jug Band, along with David Grisman and Joshua Rifkin. |
Subject: RE: Looking for Fred Weisz From: iancarterb Date: 05 Jun 07 - 11:38 PM A decade or two ago I saw him introduced by Grisman at a Grisman concert in Seattle. Northwest might be a place to start. |
Subject: RE: Looking for Fred Weisz From: Peace Date: 06 Jun 07 - 11:10 PM I think ypu best bet would be to contact Goose Creek Symphony here and ask after him there. |
Subject: RE: Looking for Fred Weisz From: Celtaddict Date: 06 Jun 07 - 11:15 PM I did that, thank you; he played with them years ago (and is still on the home page, apparently because he is on the CD), but has not been with them for some years. Their booking agent does not have a contact; I have not had a response yet from their 'media and interview' person. But surely someone is in contact. He has been playing so many years, I am sure he is still playing somewhere! |
Subject: RE: Looking for Fred Weisz From: Peace Date: 06 Jun 07 - 11:19 PM OK. I will search further, CA. |
Subject: RE: Looking for Fred Weisz From: johnross Date: 07 Jun 07 - 01:24 AM Seems to me he was in Vancouver fairly recently (within the last few years). Jon Barlett would know, but he's away from home. You might want to send him a private message or refresh this thread in about a month. |
Subject: RE: Looking for Fred Weisz From: Celtaddict Date: 09 Jul 07 - 11:43 PM Alas, Jon was here for Sea Music Festival at the time of your note, which I did not see until later! So, still trying. |
Subject: RE: Looking for Fred Weisz From: Joybell Date: 10 Jul 07 - 07:19 PM Thank you Celtaddict. It's strange that Fred should vanish so completely. Hildebrand didn't get any responses from any of the websites we found where he's mentioned. He'd already tried mutual friends. Hope burns bright though. So many answered questions here. Cheers, Joy |
Subject: RE: Looking for Fred Weisz From: Joybell Date: 20 Aug 08 - 07:13 PM Been a year. Still hoping Cheers, Joy |
Subject: RE: Looking for Fred Weisz From: GUEST,Fred Weisz Date: 17 Aug 14 - 01:37 AM Hello, this is Fred Weisz. I saw your enquiry about what I am doing these days at a friend's house in Everett, WA. I am well, and still playing the fiddle regularly on the sidewalks and restaurants in Everett. At the courthouse. There are two articles of me in the Everett Herald. I will post the links so you can read them. http://www.heraldnet.com/article/20070819/NEWS01/708190326 Anyway, just thought I would drop in and let you know I'm still playing. Thanks. - Fred Weisz |
Subject: RE: Looking for Fred Weisz From: Stilly River Sage Date: 17 Aug 14 - 02:04 PM I think I posted a story about this (playing at the Snohomish County Courthouse) elsewhere in Mudcat several years ago. We need to link the threads. SRS |
