Subject: What's on near Pickering Yorkshire From: Old Roger Date: 14 Jun 07 - 11:26 AM Folks who come to The Wolf Folk Club (which I run) near Sandringham will be on holiday near Pickering in Yorkshire from June 23rd for a couple of weeks. Can anyone tell me if there are clubs or events in that area at that time which they could visit and I will let them know. They will be very appreciative of any help. |

Subject: RE: What's on near Pickering Yorkshire From: Old Roger Date: 14 Jun 07 - 11:50 AM They would enjoy a singaround. Thanks for your response |
Subject: RE: What's on near Pickering Yorkshire From: Nick Date: 14 Jun 07 - 12:53 PM We have a singaround/mixed musicians singers gathering every Wednesday from 8.30 at the Thompsons Arms, Flaxton - PM if you want more info. Thompsons Arms : varies from 25-40 people of which probably 15-20 do things. Go around in turn and each person gets a go if they want. Mixture of unaccompanied trad/chorus (Coppers-like) to fiddle tune sets to more modern stuff to Les Barker monologues. All welcome. Thursday there is a singaround at The Three Tuns in the market place at Thirsk each week. Friday - Tap and Spile in York. Noisy and boisterous - throw yourself in if you're brave :) Whitby has various things during the week - someone I'm sure will post from there. Saturday - White Hart at Mickleby has a singaround - they sometimes have guests so worth checking first Sunday - Stokesley have a singaround but I think it is not every week (may be monthly) |
Subject: RE: What's on near Pickering Yorkshire From: GUEST,Fantum Date: 14 Jun 07 - 12:57 PM Robin Hoods Bay Friday night at the Dolphin I think Whitby The friendship rowing club Wed Sun Whitby The Cutty Sark near the railway station Loftus thursday the Station Mickleby the white Hart Sat There is more of this stuff I will get the book and sort it out properly The problem is that all these places are a good step say 15miles from Pickering Ryedale where Pickering is situated is surprisingly short of folk clubs. Hopefully the arts centre at Helmsley will start up later this year which will help. Anyway more later when I get two minutes and the local folkies bible the Folk Roundabout Fantum |

Subject: RE: What's on near Pickering Yorkshire From: nutty Date: 14 Jun 07 - 03:11 PM I can recommend Mickleby on the 23rd. Although he lives locally, Dave Moss is/was the lead singer in Banoffie. An amazingly talented young man .... and lovely with it. I similarly recommend Dave Evardson at Robin Hoods Bay on the 6th. |
Subject: RE: What's on near Pickering Yorkshire From: stallion Date: 14 Jun 07 - 04:06 PM Come down and see us at the Tap & Spile, as Nick says it is boisterous but some good songs a big chorus. And a chance to see "Two Black Sheep & a Stallion"! |
Subject: RE: What's on near Pickering Yorkshire From: Herga Kitty Date: 14 Jun 07 - 04:35 PM Re Whitby - Cutty Sark's not been the Cutty Sark for quite a few years, though is still the venue for Sunday nights (with Derek Elliot as far as I know). Has now had name change from Tap and Spile to Station Inn IIRC. Kitty Kitty |
Subject: RE: What's on near Pickering Yorkshire From: Old Roger Date: 14 Jun 07 - 05:44 PM Wow, thanks everyone for a terrific response. I bet he wishes he was staying for a month so he could get to more. In fact I wish I was going myself now. |
Subject: RE: What's on near Pickering Yorkshire From: gnomad Date: 14 Jun 07 - 07:47 PM Yes, Kitty is right re both name change and Derek being the man on Sundays. There is a Tuesday singaround at the First In, Last Out [York Terrace, Whitby] which doesn't seem to have got mentioned. Oh, and the Friendship got changed to Thursday evenings earlier this year. |
Subject: RE: What's on near Pickering Yorkshire From: stallion Date: 15 Jun 07 - 11:31 AM Also, A singaround (with instruments?) on a Thursday night at the Forge Valley Inn, West Ayton, Nr Scarborough, that is the closest session, maybe only eight miles away. Don't know what it is like now but it used to "rock" when it first started in 1993. |
