I don't think that it is quite right to say that, "Absolutely no biographical info on them has ever been turned up". Tony Russell lists the performers in his book "Country Music Records". The song "Let Me Play With It", breathlessly sung by a wide-eyed Betty Lou, is currently available on the Dust to Digital 3 CD set "Baby, How Can it Be?" (DTD-16). Of course, the Americans were not the only people to issue such records in the '30's. "Baby How Can it Be?" also includes the recording of "My Girl's Pussy", made by Londoner Harry Roy (and His Bat Club Boys)also in the 1930's. Surly a "must" for all cat lovers!

Bluebird issued ten sides by Hartman's Heartbreakers (one of an interlocking group of bands that included the 1930s Tennessee Ramblers and the Washboard Wonders). Another ten sides were not issued, which makes me wonder whether they just didn't sell, or perhaps Victor decided to tone down its catalog a bit. Lyrics are fairly smutty for the time, with Betty Lou trying to sound like fresh hillbilly jailbait (deliberately just a tad offkey), verbally encouraged by a male band member who undoubtedly had a pencil-thin mustache and reeked of bay rum.

The LP of the band is long out of print but the recordings are available in a rar archive file at the Western Swing on 78RPM blog:

Geez folks. you sure make me miss the bay! I lived outside salsalito from 68 to 69 and I sure loved it there. Ok, I really had the best seat in town. I lived at fort Baker right on the bay, just east of the golden gate, 20 minutes leisurely walk from Salsalito. If there is an earthly heaven I lived in it. BSeed; Thanks for the info! I've been hearing about the "Berkely Pot Luck" for years (I assume that's what this is), but have never encountered anyone who had any specifics until now. My wife and I will don our Mudcat T-shirts and brave the rain, and cross the Bay Bridge, and come on over. I'm familiar with Comfy Chair. My good friend Scott Mason, has been their on-again, off-again drummer for a couple of years. The enigmatic Baby Gramps is at Ashkenaz tomorrow afternoon, and I'd like to catch some of his set. I'm going to the East Bay Pickin' and Fiddlin' session tomorrow (monthly song circle with lots of sattelite groups in various rooms of large houses or various parts of large yards)--Berkeley--1609 Woolery St. All afternoon. I'll be coming in about 3 (it runs from 12 or 1 to 6 or so)--I'm going to catch Ira Levin's songs for children at the Julia Morgan Center on College--a block or two south of Dwight Way. Ira is leader, lead singer, sax and flute player for a highly entertaining swing band, Comfy Chair--but he also does this kids' sing on Sundays, 1 and 3 p.m. Joe Offer sometimes comes to the EB Pickin' etc. things, and maybe he'll make it this week (a break after Easter, Joe?) The song is by "Hartmans Heartbreakers" with vocals by "Betty Lou" a risque Hillbilly band who made what used to be called "party records"in the mid-'30's. Absolutely no biographical info on them has ever been turned up, and the Heartbreakers 78's are exremely rare. The other two verses to "Yo-Yo" are, "We'll go up to room 304, start on the bed and wind up on the floor, CHORUS.. Ain't no man and it's understood, I know how to make you feel good "CHORUS, fiddle solos and out.

Ten or fifteen years ago I was walking my dogs, wearing a walkman, listening to Dr. Demento--he played a cut called "You Let Me Play with Your Yo-yo, I'll Let You Play with Mine," sung by a woman with a bluesy voice to a tune with the same harmonic structure as "Alice's Restaurant" by Arlo Guthrie. The only words I can remember were this verse:

You let me play with your yo-yo, and I'll let you play with mine.
You let me play with your yo-yo, and I'll let you play with mine.
You got a wiener and I got a bun; we can put the two together and have some fun.
You let me play with your yo-yo, and I'll let you play with mine.

Anyone have this or know any more of the lyrics?
