just a word of praise about the above Festival held this last weekend(16th&17th June) at a new venue, having been priced out of the old one.
Sure the new venue wasn't perfect but I thought the Festival was better in almost every other respect than in previous years. More people were there as "audience" and the general standard of singing was much better in the events I attended. The concerts, going on on two stages throughout the day and one in the evening presented a wide range of folk music from the USA, South America, Africa and Europe and though not a dancer myself it seemed that the opportunity existed to learn just about any variety of "folk" dance you might wish.
Knowing many are mudcatters I'd just like to thank here all the visitors who showed up and bought the CD's of the people they liked, the great (unpaid) artists who performed and shared their expertise, and especially the dedicated volunteer staff who made my weekend such an enjoyable one and encourage you mudcatters who missed it to "come on down" for next years event.

I wished I could've stayed out in San Francisco a few days longer so I could've caught this one. There were also a few mudcatters performing, may some more folks could chime in here & give the rest of us a peek at what we missed? That's 2 real good festivals I've missed this month, 1 more & I'm staying down for the count. Opps gonna miss Old Songs too. Good bye!

Barry

Lancslad and David LoVine joined radriano and myself at our forebitters and chanteys workshops. There was a great turnout for them. Workshops at this festival range from pure teaching to singarounds and sessions. This was more in the session category, with some background information given. Radriano and I also did an open mike set, and listening to some other open mike performers, I thought this was one of the better years, with some great old talent and new talent. I thought the new food vendor, serving Indian dishes was much better than last year's outside vendor's hotdogs and the like. I missed Saturday's festivities due to work, but I trust all went well.

Hats off to the festival directoir, Michael Jones, and to all the volunteers, musicians, and dancers. Nobody gets paid except for venue rental. it's a true labor of love.

...and of course the food vendor is paid through sales. I thought the Indian food was fairly priced, and I don't know how I stopped eating the Samosas. it was like feeding fish...didn't know when to stop.
