Subject: 1st romney marsh festival From: kerry and Mandy Date: 25 Jun 07 - 02:28 PM Hi all We want to let you know about a fantastic event that's taking place at the Star Inn in St Mary's in the Marsh on the Romney marsh in kent, on Saturday and Sunday 21st and 22nd of July. There will be a two day music festival and village fair happening on those days in aid of Demelza house and the St Mary's village hall fund. All proceeds will be split between these two charities. As well as the usual village fair stalls, crockery smashing, photographic exhibition, etc over 20 stalls in all, there will be lots of live music over the weekend. On both days there will be open stages, both amplified and acoustic for anyone who would like to come along and do a turn and on the Saturday evening there will be a concert. On the Saturday evening we have got Alison and Michelle, a versatile female duo, Paul Sirman, a wonderful folk singer, Ron Trueman-Boarder, singer/songwriter and the Starlings, a Beatles tribute act. All these artists are giving their time for free in aid of the charities. Over the weekend we have many local artist's appearing such as: John Chapman, Keith Meredith, The Rambling Boys, The Buckthorn Band, Ravenhill, Happy Trails, Chris from Prochswing blue's, The Travelling Folk, a Morris troop, Fred and Graeme, Steve Symons and Tim, Nick and Jean. This is the first Marsh Festival and, hopefully, if it is a success, not the last. kerry and mandy |

Subject: RE: 1st romney marsh festival From: Rockhen Date: 25 Jun 07 - 05:19 PM Came down to do a charity gig for a place near Ashford, just a couple of weeks ago. Wish it had been the same weekend as it is 5 hours drive from here! Will tell my mate, she did a cd with songs about romney marsh and the area a few years back and has a lot of good things to say about that part of the country. Maybe she can contact a few old friends, down there and spread the word. Good luck for a successful first festival! |

It is our first venture into event organising, but hopefully not the last!! We have been very lucky with the support we've had so far, especially with the performers! If it carries on into next year maybe Dick might be able to join us?! If any of you do make it please come and see me and Kerry, it would be great to meet you. |

Subject: RE: 1st romney marsh festival From: Richard Bridge Date: 26 Jun 07 - 03:34 AM I might be able to make it on the Saturday - but it is still quite a way from the Isle of Grain and of course the roads on Romney Marsh twist and turn while in use to deceive the intruder.... You could try a pm to melodeonboy and growler to see if Ruff'n'Ready are up for it. I think ConcertinaCeol comes from somewhere near there, too. |
Subject: RE: 1st romney marsh festival From: Richard Bridge Date: 26 Jun 07 - 03:35 AM PS and Ruth Cooke from Rye, probably traceable via Travelling Folk. |

We just had our one last weekend (see Review:Aylesford Village Festival 2007). Just be aware, the last two weeks feel like the worst - but don't wory, you've done the hard part - it'll run itself now and it'll be fine!! :-) What you are doing this year, is what we want to do next year, ie, the open mike stuff and artistes. Perhaps we can exchange organisation details at some point via PM? That week end is the one before Sidmouth, so I should be able to come along and support. Best of luck, see you there. Look forward to seeing you on the marsh. By the way, will Ten Guineas Bounty be appearing? I believe they are based over that way and I enjoyed their last visit to Deal. |
Subject: RE: 1st romney marsh festival From: Dave Masterson Date: 04 Jul 07 - 03:47 AM Sounds like a good knees-up K&M! Just what the marsh needs - takes me back to the Appledore folk weekends of the 80's. Unfortunately we won't be able to make the Saturday as we are holding a soiree (how refined) at our place in the evening, but we'll see how were fixed for Sunday pm. Will you be publishing a programme? Dave & Eileen. |

Subject: RE: 1st romney marsh festival From: My guru always said Date: 20 Jul 07 - 08:10 AM Am hoping to pop along sometime over the weekend, possibly Sunday. Good Luck! |
Subject: RE: 1st romney marsh festival From: GUEST,Gadaffi Date: 20 Jul 07 - 09:24 AM I'm told that it was Andy Sinden's father who used to sing the 'old songs', but that Andy is making an attempt to learn them. There are also two or three singers living in Dungeness that could be sounded out - certainly Ken Oiller and one of the Richardsons. And the Millen Family from Bethersden are back after their KCC-sponsored visit to WEashington. |

Subject: RE: 1st romney marsh festival From: Arnie Date: 22 Jul 07 - 03:39 PM We only managed Saturday as I was working today, but I thought it was great fun! Took some finding mind you, as the locals seem to have moved all the road signs around. However, it was nice driving through that lovely marsh countryside on a sunny afternoon. The beer was great (never had Archers before), and the music even better. If today was anything like yesterday, I would say it's been a resounding success and can't wait til next year!! Well done Kerry & Mandy. Hope to see you at the Deal Maritime Festival in September? Arnie |
Subject: RE: 1st romney marsh festival From: Girl Friday Date: 23 Jul 07 - 07:41 AM Hi from Lepe Of Leopards. We enjoyed the day very much well done, and can we please have a longer spot next year. We got prepped to do 3 or 4 but were cut down to two. Sorry we couldn't do all weekend but were in demand elsewhere. |
Subject: RE: 1st romney marsh festival From: synbyn Date: 23 Jul 07 - 08:20 AM Thanks again, Kerry & Mandy- lovely time both days, and the sun shines on the righteous! ( I knew getting a lift from the vicar was a good sign...) - the sound men were absolutely brilliant, made it easy to concentrate on singing, and the organisation was just right- takes a lot of hard work to make everything happen, and overcome sudden changes, but you did it all with smiles on your faces! Thanks to John, too, who kept the stage running very smoothly and happily, just the right word in the right place. All in all, an excellent setting and a friendly gathering... see you all at Broadstairs! |
Subject: RE: 1st romney marsh festival From: RamblinStu Date: 23 Jul 07 - 08:52 AM What a brilliant weekend it was. With the horrendous weather going on elsewhere in the country, St Mary's in the Marsh was blessed with sunshine. Alright it may have got a bit chill on Saturday night but hey, it could have been so much worse. The music was fantastic, such a wealth of talent from far and near, it was a privilege to listen to them all There you have it, great weather, great music, great atmosphere and great beer, who could ask for more. Thanks Kerry and Mandy. I know you will say that others did lots to help, which they did, but, it was you two who were the catalyst that got the whole thing started, and you two who saw it through to fruition. Good on yer both. Roll on next year. |
Subject: RE: 1st romney marsh festival From: kerry and Mandy Date: 23 Jul 07 - 02:05 PM thank you guys for the reviews, it was a fab weekend and we are already planning next years, with afew changes, to make it even better. just want to say abig thank you to all concerned for thier help and supprot. the people who performed were exelent, thank you guys. allways better when the reviews come from the people there rather than the organisers. see you all soon take care kerry and mandy |
Subject: RE: 1st romney marsh festival From: GUEST,Twiz Date: 23 Jul 07 - 02:16 PM Cheers Kerry and Mandy, What a great venue... pity about the wind up my whistle.
