I am without words (a rare occasion). When y'all got this up and running I missed it as we were going through some tough personal times right then and pretty much everything else went unnoticed. But you have given me a fun evening tonight and I thank you! Spaw |

Subject: RE: 230 of Art's River Years photos now post From: BK Lick Date: 11 Dec 07 - 01:16 AM Art's sent me some new captions for some of the River Years Photos -- here's how you can easy find 'em: Click on the word "Search" up near the top of any page. Then, on the next page you see, enter the word "river" into the search box. Uncheck "Title" and "Caption" -- leave "Keywords" checked. Click the search button. You'll then see thumbnail pics of all the River Years photos that Art has captioned to date -- seven as of today. Likewise, entering "places" in the search box will display the 43 Places photos that Art has captioned, and entering "people" will show you the 145 captioned People photos. The photos are grand by themselves but Art's accompanying descriptions add so much, dontcha think? Let's encourage him to add more! —BK |

Subject: RE: 230 of Art's River Years photos now post From: Uncle Phil Date: 29 Jun 07 - 11:43 PM Art - Wow, even better than I expected, and my expectations were pretty high. Your end of the river is picturesque and colorful, isn't it. The shots of the JBS and Twilight were especially nice, although I was surprised to find that the Louisiana-built Twilight is a diesel-electric rather than a steamboat. I guess there were only so many old ferrys to scavenge steam engines from. Anyway, great photos. Thanks for sharing them with us. - Phil |
Subject: RE: 230 of Art's River Years photos now post From: GUEST,Art Thieme Date: 29 Jun 07 - 04:56 PM Kat, yes, that's our son Chris in those pictures that are labeled with that name on 'em. He worked on the steamboat Julia Belle Swain back in the '80s, probably on my coattails. It was his summer job---and he kept on doing it right on through his college years. For a couple of years he was a deckhand. One year he was cook for 100 people a day---two meals a day and snacks. Then he was first mate for a couple of years. In a real sense, we went to work together during those important formative years of his up-bringing, just like in other centuries when fathers and sons did that as a matter of course. I got to watch him date about 25 or 30 of the waitresses. It was cool as it could be. And we both lived through it, coming out on the other side really liking each other---just like we went into the adventure. Chris is 37 now. Art |

Subject: RE: 230 of Art's River Years photos now post From: katlaughing Date: 29 Jun 07 - 10:00 AM I've only had a chance to look at the first thirty or so,so far, but as usual, you prove why you are Fine Art! Beautiful...esp. the sunsets, foliage, poignant shots of little bridges, mighty rivers and people...oh, heck, the whole shebang! Thanks to you and Bruce for getting them online. They are priceless, imo. (Is the "Chris" in them, your Chris? Somehow, I didn't think he'd of been old enough at the time?) luvyakat |

Subject: RE: 230 of Art's River Years photos now post From: Uncle Phil Date: 28 Jun 07 - 10:32 PM http://rudegnu.com/art_thieme.html Well there's karma for you -- I was thinking about the other thread just this morning. I'm off to have a look at the river photos. - Phil |
Subject: 230 of Art's River Years photos now post From: GUEST,Art Thieme Date: 28 Jun 07 - 10:10 PM Bruce Kallick has made it possible to see 230 or so of The RIVER YEARS photos I took between 1986 and 1997 when I was singing on the Steamboat JULIA BELLE SWAIN and the riverboat TWILIGHT on the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers. (A few other rivers are here too--the Rock River in Illinois and Wisconsin---the Ohio River and the Umpqua River in Oregon.) Like my FOLK SCENE photos, this new batch can be viewed at: http://rudegnu.com/art_thieme.html Remember to put in the lower case word mudcat as both the 'user name' and the 'password.' That will get you in. There are now 3 albums up there: "People"--"Places"--and "The River Years" A few of these river snapshots are repeats from the 'Folk Scene' gallery. But for the most part, they are not ones Mudcatters have seen before. -- There was a recent thread here called ART'S PHOTOS that I cannot seem to find using the Forum Search. That is where we had been talking about getting these shots of mine up on B.K. Lick's good site. I'll be adding information on some of 'em as time and energy permits. I hope they'll be enjoyable to some. It was fun choosing them. Art |
