Male or female voice? Any accompaniment? What style, i.e. folk, pop, blues, etc.? When did you hear it, years ago or recently? Where, on the radio, on a CD, etc.?

Female.. sounded a lot like Alison Krauss, but it's not her. I heard it recently, in fact two days ago, in an episode of "The Dead Zone". I've tried every single search engine I could think of, but no one knows the song.

I sent an email that may or may not reach one of the series' sound editor, credited there as TC Spriggs.

Is there a message board for the show where someone may have nabbed a copy and could check the show credits for you if no one here has any luck?

Is it stuck in your head, in which case I'd advise you hum or whistle or sing that tune into the nearest recording device (even your voicemail), so you don't lose it.

We've all been there. Heck, some would say this whole site here owes its existence to it! :~)

Yes, there is a message board, BUT: they all have the same problem! No one knows anything about this song. It's not in the credits, either. A friend of mine living in the USA already looked it up. I'm from Germany and don't have the possibility to watch it again.
Maybe you'll laugh now, but I tend to record everything that's stuck in my head, even if it's just a reminder to check my post-office box. I always forget imortant things.

At Mudcat we prefer people pick some kind of posting name, so even if you aren't joining with membership you might want to add a screen name to your posts.


BTW, people here can be amazingly persistent. There are other songs requested YEARS ago that only recently got the correct info posted. Happens all the time. I hope yours will be answered more quickly, but do bookmark the thread and keep checking back.


And of course if YOU get the answer first, please come back and post it in this thread for posterity. :~)

Thanks for not laughing.. and sorry I didn't pick a screen namer sooner, I didn't know you could choose a name without registering.

I really hope it doesn't take years for somebody to find out.. I wanted to use the song in a script for a project. Maybe we get the information 'till September, for the fall schedule.

And yes, of course I will post the information here WHEN I find it. I'm fairly optimistic.

In a forum at Adtunes.com, someone says the title is MIDDLE OF IT ALL.

Allmusic.com lists several songs called MIDDLE OF IT ALL or IN THE MIDDLE OF IT ALL. I have listened to several sound samples, but none of them sounds like the right one.

I hunted around a bit on Google, and in the forum on the official network website of the show

a lot of people were looking for the song as well. A couple of them said it is "The Middle of it All" by The Liz Melendez Band.

They have their own website

According to the USA Network's message board, the Dead Zone production team says the title is "Middle of a Show" (not "the show"), but then the same message misspells Melendez's name. Anyway, here's the USA thread

According to the Dead Zone website, the episode in which the song appears ("Re-entry") aired last Sunday July 1st, and was repeated 3 times through the week, but the last airing was Friday morning July 6 at 3:00 a.m. EDT (a.k.a. Mudcat Time). Katlaughing says we can watch missed episodes on-line but I could not find where. The Dead Zone website includes a 2-minute video recap of former episodes, but not the full episodes themselves.

I looked on YouTube to see if anyone had recorded and posted the portion of the episode containing the Liz Melendez song, but amazingly (given its apparent popularity among viewers) I couldn't find it there.

A warm welcome to Mudcat. This is why I love this site so much - especially when the songwriter drops in to add to the discussion.

As you can see from the first posting on this thread, the question was asked by Emma in Germany back in 2007 and now the thread has been revived to post the lyrics.
