Subject: Origins: Who sings this beautiful song??? Help!!!
From: GUEST
Date: 04 Jul 07 - 12:35 PM

Can you please help me? I really need to know who sings this and what's the name of the song, but it's just a snippet out of it because I don't know more.

!So this is life
So this is hurt
So this is what they talk about when they say hope for the best, expect the worst
It's all in the day to day
"S'all in getting through
So what can one person say
To comfort you?
So the wind blows
So it all goes
With or without you
Don't try to run
Just let it come
Don't hide where you belong (?)
In the middle of it all
Would be so nice
To have things clear
I think we all know that's not what we have here
Just take my arm, take my hand
???
I might need the same in another place"

Male or female voice? Any accompaniment? What style, i.e. folk, pop, blues, etc.? When did you hear it, years ago or recently? Where, on the radio, on a CD, etc.?

Female.. sounded a lot like Alison Krauss, but it's not her. I heard it recently, in fact two days ago, in an episode of "The Dead Zone". I've tried every single search engine I could think of, but no one knows the song.

I sent an email that may or may not reach one of the series' sound editor, credited there as TC Spriggs.

Is there a message board for the show where someone may have nabbed a copy and could check the show credits for you if no one here has any luck?

Is it stuck in your head, in which case I'd advise you hum or whistle or sing that tune into the nearest recording device (even your voicemail), so you don't lose it.

We've all been there. Heck, some would say this whole site here owes its existence to it! :~)

Yes, there is a message board, BUT: they all have the same problem! No one knows anything about this song. It's not in the credits, either. A friend of mine living in the USA already looked it up. I'm from Germany and don't have the possibility to watch it again.
Maybe you'll laugh now, but I tend to record everything that's stuck in my head, even if it's just a reminder to check my post-office box. I always forget imortant things.
Thank you!

No one's laughing here where I am.... Yes I saw the DZ message board...

At Mudcat we prefer people pick some kind of posting name, so even if you aren't joining with membership you might want to add a screen name to your posts.

BTW, people here can be amazingly persistent. There are other songs requested YEARS ago that only recently got the correct info posted. Happens all the time. I hope yours will be answered more quickly, but do bookmark the thread and keep checking back.

And of course if YOU get the answer first, please come back and post it in this thread for posterity. :~)

Thanks for not laughing.. and sorry I didn't pick a screen namer sooner, I didn't know you could choose a name without registering.

I really hope it doesn't take years for somebody to find out.. I wanted to use the song in a script for a project. Maybe we get the information 'till September, for the fall schedule.

And yes, of course I will post the information here WHEN I find it. I'm fairly optimistic.

Thanks for telling me all these things and helping me to think postive ;-) I really appreciate your efforts.

I'm sorry if my English's bad. I'm still learning...

I wanted to use the song in a script for a project.

If I get a contact with Spriggs, mentioning that is sure to help.

Your English is just fine, Emma. Welcome to the Mudcat.

Did you know you can watch missed episodes on-line? That may help. Also there is a Dead Zone soundtrack CD available, just Click here. I realise that may not have anything from a recent episode, though.

Good luck!

In a forum at Adtunes.com, someone says the title is MIDDLE OF IT ALL.

Allmusic.com lists several songs called MIDDLE OF IT ALL or IN THE MIDDLE OF IT ALL. I have listened to several sound samples, but none of them sounds like the right one.

I hunted around a bit on Google, and in the forum on the official network website of the show

www.usanetwork.com

a lot of people were looking for the song as well. A couple of them said it is "The Middle of it All" by The Liz Melendez Band.

They have their own website

www.lizmelendezband.com

You might find out something more on there. There is also a myspace site that you can get to from the website.

Good luck.

OK, glad to see we're creeping towards the truth [quote from an old US TV show, "the truth is out there...."]

I actually joined that Adtunes site linked above so I could ask the logical question a poster there had left as a teaser, but I'm not going back to see if it gets answered anymore now that I see Emma has kept an eye out here and is "on the case." [Detective with magnifying glass imagery.]

According to the USA Network's message board, the Dead Zone production team says the title is "Middle of a Show" (not "the show"), but then the same message misspells Melendez's name. Anyway, here's the USA thread

According to the Dead Zone website, the episode in which the song appears ("Re-entry") aired last Sunday July 1st, and was repeated 3 times through the week, but the last airing was Friday morning July 6 at 3:00 a.m. EDT (a.k.a. Mudcat Time). Katlaughing says we can watch missed episodes on-line but I could not find where. The Dead Zone website includes a 2-minute video recap of former episodes, but not the full episodes themselves.

I looked on YouTube to see if anyone had recorded and posted the portion of the episode containing the Liz Melendez song, but amazingly (given its apparent popularity among viewers) I couldn't find it there.

Here are the lyrics (well 99%) just that one little bit (?????) I couldn't discern -- sounded like "houzenwax" to me but i'm guessing that's not correct! Perhaps YOU can suss it!
Lovely song, BTW.

MIDDLE OF IT ALL Debra Stillman

So this is life. So this is hurt.
So this is what they talk about when they say hope for the best, expect the worst.
It's all in the day to day.
It's all in getting through.
So what can one person say to comfort you?
oooooooooo
So the wind blows. So it all goes with or without you.
dooooooooo
Don't try to run. Just let it come.
You're right where you belong - in the middle of it all.
hmmmmmmmmm
Would be so nice to have things clear,
but I think we all know it's not what we have here.
So Just take my arm, take my embrace.
I might need the same. In another place.
dooooooooooo
So the wind blows. So it all goes with or without you.
doooooooooooooo
Don't try to run. just let it come,
you're right where you belong, In the middle of it all
Stay away from ???????? when you've reached that spot
Where everything that's asked of you
Is everything you've got.
ooooooooooo
So the wind blows, so it all goes with or without you
dooooooooooo
don't try to run, just let it come,
you're right where you belong, In the middle of it all
oooooooooooooo

Debra Stillman - Middle of it All

Debra Stillman says July 16, 2007 at 11:42 pm: The song that begins “So this is life, so this is hurt” is actually my song, Middle of it All. I was just told they got the names mixed up. I used to be Debra Lowe but got married. It’s Debra Stillman now.

Hi, all. This is Debra and I wrote the song.

It's not "dooo," just me singing "And oooh." I guess it just produces that sound.

It begins "So this is life, so this is hurt"

Mick is correct about the bridge. The lyric is
"stay away from hows and whys
when you've reached that spot..."

I actually have a website under construction, but there is a link to the lyrics of this song in my original music.

https://www.debrastillman.com/

Hope this helps. Thanks so much for listening to it. It makes me happy.

Hi Debra,

A warm welcome to Mudcat. This is why I love this site so much - especially when the songwriter drops in to add to the discussion.

As you can see from the first posting on this thread, the question was asked by Emma in Germany back in 2007 and now the thread has been revived to post the lyrics.

From searching the internet, I see that your song touched a lot of people over many years so you should be proud of that achievement.

All the best,
Helen
