I'm really disappointed that no one even responded with an artist that sounds like her. I'm sure with all the musical talent on this board, there are plenty of good ppl that know.

It's just so important to hear that kind of music, and it's so sad.

Maybe no one had the time? I listened to some and it is very good. But as with all music, it's a matter of taste. I like Enya--music I find relaxing and beautiful. AND, it might have been helpful had you linked to some of VB's youtube performances, because I expect many folks here haven't heard the music before. ANT, you were Heart+ and now you're Me. I spent a large part of the last two days reading essays which attempted to answer the question of "who put the bop?"
It's the title of my Students' final dissertation on the role of the producer in Music,Film,TV and Radio.
All of our assignments have titles that refer to song lyrics, mostly because it amused me to do it that way, but partly as a challenge to identify the songs.

Our search isn't complete, but I counted 13 messages posted about Vashti Bunyan here in the 10-year history of Mudcat - and we've had more than two million messages posted here. I guess poor Vashti just isn't very popular with traditional folkies.

Here's one tentative suggestion; it doesn't sound quite like Vashti Bunyan, but you might find some of the same quality of peacefulness that you mentioned in your earlier message. I guess you can find it on amazon and hear samples?

Custer La Rue singing Appalachian ballads on her CD True Lover's Farewell. She grew up in a Southern singing family, learned ballads at home, but then studied music and these are arranged with members of the Baltimore consort playing early musicy arrangements, lute etc. Very lovely voice, but maybe more spirited and energetic than what you are looking for, with less airspace. But the CD as a whole might evoke a kind of tranquility.

Thanks Joe: Darowyn was getting all cerebral on us there. So I went looking for the artist, read a few lyrics tried to find some sound samples and then back to the original poster to figure out what he/she wanted to know.
Having researched the topic, I now feel qualified to answer.
