Me and Stew and extended families and friends- our party gets larger every year (in number I mean, before the rude comments!)

It's nice that the kiddies enjoy Warwick so much that they want to introduce their non-folkie friends to the experience :0)

Looking forward to meeting up with lots of nice people again, including all the above xx

We had a great brandy and chocolate session last year. So good a certain fiddle player took two days to recover and her mother-in-law came to the stall to complain.

There is a certain affinity with Warwick and drink and me. a year or two earlier - we managed to get a Monkseaton Morris man smashed out of his skull on a combination of polish vodka, raspberry juice and chili sauce - a drink Sheffield City Morris had picked up on a trip to Poland and was apparently called a "Mad Dog".

I'll see what else exotic I can bring.........

I may be very lonely on Fri so if your steward's radio doesn't work tell me they are not working - over the radio of course! Helping-out with the radio stuff is relatively slow with sporadic panics.
All being well I will be arriving early Fri from Bretforton - Fleece Thurs session was a bit slow starting last year probably everyone preparing for the w/e.
That's the plan anyway.

Can I put in a request for NO RAIN please! We got rained on last year (we were looking after the main marquee during the big downpour and on the main gate on a rainy Sunday) and as citizens of the most flood-damaged City in Britain - and it's been siling down all day today - enough is enough!

I will be there with Jim McD if he survives Stainsby FF and I remember the words at Saddleworth FF!!

It was a bit wet last year and I have vivid memories of sitting in Moor and Coast tent with Glen holding the rain off the back of his food tent as the lighting came and the rain flooded the food tent (again)

Time for some good weather this year, please

Warwick's my favourite festival but Dulverton beckons as they've given us (Moses and the Ref) a concert spot:-)

Hope you all have a great time and the rain keeps off us all.

I wonder if we have a jaundiced view of the weather last year? That was as bad a thunderstorm as I have ever known - and if you want to know how bad it was talk to Graham Bradshaw who saw lightning flashing across his lighting rig during a performance and felt obliged to pull the plug!!

And let's remember someone got killed on the bridge too.

But as I remember - the rest of the festival was good weather, and thanks to the very dry nature of the ground it was soaked up very quickly - and things seemed to get dry fairly soon.

I'll take a book so if you come to the bookstall *collectorsfolk" please feel free to let me know and I will post the names after we get back. I hope to be opposite the beer tent!!

Dave

Can't wait. Cross fingers that the Battle Bus completes the month without any grief.
Moses, have a great gig, we'll miss you.
Saro, looking forward to seeing/hearing you again.
Villan, thanks for info. We'll look out for Malc and Teresa.
MC Fat, see you at Saddleworth and Warwick!

My husband checked the diary and announced, as though it was news to him, that I'll have attended 3 festivals in one month!(Repeated great escapes). He will be in Warwick briefly (Sat)as we've been invited to a BBQ in Reading and he'll come and collect me so.... please look after Linda until I get back!
Looking forward to what is my favourite festival. Must check a diary - I believe this'll be my 5th Warwick.

Obviously pub management changes a good bit now so things do change, had a good session of singing in The Bowling Green last year, and found Malcolm Speake and Chris Lowe, and Mal Gurnham and Alhambra involved too in different pubs on the festival bus route in town

I think Jim McDonald doing a session somewhere this year again

Indeed it is and still raining.

Forecast for Warwick this week is light showers every day except Wednesday when there will be... light rain. But Friday will have sunny intervals! :0)

warwick folk festival news says:

>23-Jul-2007 - WEATHER WATCH

... The campsite is well drained and we are prepared with an emergency roadway to protect the entrance of the campsite. Although there has been some national TV coverage of flooding in Warwickshire, the school has not been affected.

I've just been looking at the interweb for any information about weather conditionsa and the state of rivers. The latest bunch of floods this last weekend have been further South and West of Warwick.

Warwick Folk festival's own site has got a page for late news, including weather conditions. The say that so far there is not a problem with the festival site. http://warwickfolkfestival.co.uk/news.shtml. Their weather report is dated today.

The Environment Agency has a Flood Warning page for the Midlands. At time of this posting the River Avon between Rugby (Quite a long way upstream from Warwick) and Salford Priors (Downstream from Stratford-On-Avon) is on flood watch. Of course that doesn't mean that there will be a problem at Warwick even if there are some flooded locations on the Avon.

Of course, it isn't necessarily local weather conditions which cause the problems. A number of people including performers didn't get to Saddleworth Festival because they were stuck in the floods a hundred miles south of Saddleworth.

The County Council has a list of road closures some of these are water related. http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/corporate/newsstor.nsf/publicbycategories/355CA38797FB3B358025731F003E60A1?opendocument.They also have a flood information for the County

According to the festival blog, all is well and the festival is going head as normal. I have just had a chat with the rest of the campsite setup crew, we will all be going at are normal times.

The only difficulty I can see is that the rail station appears to be closed. I am planning to catch a bus (the X17) from coventry instead.

I hadn't realised there was a thread to the floods and congratulations to the organisers for getting the news on their web page and keeping people informed.

Certainly I remember after that amazing storm last year the site drained very quickly - so unless there is another really big change in the weather conditions I am sure we well all have a great time.

Remember to come to my stall (Collectorsfolk) and sign the mudcat book. (Blatant advert).

The campsite is fine, water supplies in Warwick have not been disrupted. Please do not arrive until friday as instructed on your tickets. Contractors, set up teams and the like are there now and there are contingency plans set up as well.
The stewards who always do a great job may have a slightly harder time this year because of the problems, so please bear with them, they have job to do to ensure that the damage to the field is kept to a minimum for everyones benefit.
Thank you all in anticipation for your co-operation this year.

  • Ancient Warwickshire buildings (Shakespeare's Birthplace, Charlecote Park, Kenilworth Castle and Warwick Castle)
  • Ancient Warwickshire traditional dances
  • Ancient Warwickshire morris men
On Saturday the Shakespeare Morris men are holding their Bus-pass Day of Dance, visiting these historic sites using public transport and senior citizen passes. We will also be putting on a (fairly brief) display of our traditional arts at the Arena stage on the festival site at lunchtime - as soon after noon as the festival bus can deliver us there from the town.

Mudcatters Alanww and myself will be both dancing and playing. Hope to see lots of you there, or when we dance in the town after we return from Kenilworth sometime between 4pm and 5.30.

Traders and food etc have set up on hardstanding behind Guy Nelson Hall. Field is still very wet but weather is holding. At present only tents and caravans towed by 4x4s are allowed onto the field but there is a small amount of hard standing although very limited. The puddles in the middle of the field are reducing but organisers are concerned that if ordinary cars get on they may not get off!! Luckily the beer tent has not dried up!! Signing off now so see you all soon.

The weather on Sunday was much better than expected and the ground sense and stewarding was exceptional avoiding many potential "tow offs" this is great for festival such as Warwick which is so open to weather problems

Can I just add (as a trader) my personal thanks - and I will be writing to the school - for the help of the ground staff of the school?

It must have hurt them considerably to see the ground being churned up by vehicles. All they ever did was do their best to help. "We want to see it go ahead" said one of them.

The reason for this was because apparently we are less trouble than the 4,000 Baptists they are expecting next.

Thanks to those who came to visit the stall, browsed, chatted, bought books, made coffee for me, brought ginger beer, strawberries and even those who practised their melodeon. Let me re-phrase that - especially those who practised their melodeon.

The most abiding memory for me was in the late night Arts Centre ran

by Brian Rogers again when Damian Barber accompanied himself on

English concertina and sang The Foggy Dew ~ very well, now there was

a sprightly elderly chap sitting quite near to him and the sheer joy

and emotion was truly evident and I was moved by his reaction

he later chatted to Damian

Later this chap accompanied himself on Anglo and sang "The Road to

Dundee", a very lovely moment again!

My thanks too, to Dick, the Stewards and all who kept Warwick going this year! Having heard about the 'lakes' & 'no vehicles' on the Thursday evening I was prepared for the worst, but Warwick brought it all together & looked after us all!!

Loved Brian's late night sings as always, what wonderful acoustics in there! So glad that he opened up early & stayed late to keep us all happy. Think Breton Cap may have assisted, if so more thanks to you Dave!

Wonderful to hear Hissyfit again (note to self: must try to get further North) and to meet so many smiling Catters & yes, I signed FolkieDave's Guestbook but it looked like lots of Catters names were missing from the signing book *naughty, naughty*

And as for the Spooky Men, well, they were absolutely Fab!!

Safe home with the Beverley Contingent!
Great to see and hear so many 'catters. Loved the songs Mrs Lemon and My Guru sang on Friday night and enjoyed the 'ladies' set on Sunday morning.

I submitted a comment on the lack of singaround venues ... and I heard that, by popular request, the 'late sing' started rather early on Saturday evening! (Just sorry I had to be elsewhere Sat pm.)
The Bowling Green and Punch Bowl kept the piped music/juke box on while people sang! Not what I expected at all.

Thanks to the Festival crew for their stewarding and management.
Did anyone else notice the cloudless sky on Sunday evening just before Keith D's set? The Spooky men were brill! Great to hear them in (and out of)the beer tent until the early hours!
See you next year.

I didn't know there was a list otherwise I would have made the effort to sign it!
I was a Moor & Coast slave as per usual so if you were in it over the weekend you may have known I was there!
Had a bit of a walk round town on Saturday and stumbled into the open mic at the Punch Bowl, so I did a little bit of playing.
I had a good time despite the mud! However I was a little narked at all of the teenybopping groupies Seth Lakeman seems to have gained, most people at the front dancing seemed to be there hero worshipping him because he's nice to look at rather than him being a good musician.
Enjoyed Steve Tilston and Malinky thoroughly, I really wish Malinky would come down to England more often, the Quarterpounders are a bit nifty too, their flautist managed to play a Michael McGoldrick tune with a dislocated thumb, ceilidh dancing to the Glorystrokes is clearly bad for your health!

We should particularly mention the great work done by the Task Force workers - they were the ones who had to bear the brunt of the extra work. And still smiling faces everywhere!

We enjoyed meeting up with old friends, making new ones and hearing great music everywhere. Roll on next year!
