That would be (As Tom Paxton would say) a Short Shelf Life song - In the 70's 'they' did away with the 'Lion' stamp on eggs to indicate the quality . There was quite a protest movement !

Can anyone out there help me with this request.
In the 70's in one of the Spinners TV Shows they sang a song and in the chorus it went like this "Give me back my egg with the lion on it sure you want to take me for a fool", Does anyone know the name of the song or have any lyrics.
Thanks to anyone that can help me.

foxylyn - I know how you feel about your roots. I still have in my possesion a membership card for the Spinners club at the Gregsons Well pub and it shows the number 12 - probably dates me (and the Spinners) Agree about Hughie Jones - a great guy and fine singer/writer
Keep memories alive
Pete

Yeah, i saw Hughie at the Open Dooe club in Failsworth last year and he's still as good as ever with his grand singing and story-telling. He's been booked to appear there again at the next extravaganza in October. Check the web site.....

www.opendoorfolkclub.co.uk

Off to the 10th Saddleworth Festival this w/end - promises to be a fab-un !

I think the song is one written by Shep woolley called 'down by the dockyard wall' If it is the same song, then Hughie Jones still sings it. Well worth catching Hughie in concert if you get the chance.

Hiya Bluegrassman, there's a Spinner's web site you could check out where there's a facility for e-mailing. They were a fab bunch and still hoping they get that life time achievement award at the beeb!

Try this................
