Subject: RE: Who's for Wareham this year? From: GRex Date: 07 Sep 07 - 05:56 AM I hope that the misunderstandings re the passing of Colin are now over. I did not know Colin but after reading the messages on this thread, I wish that I had. Now back to the Wail. At one of the sings, I heard an extra verse to Keith Marsden's Funeral Song, a favorite of song mine. The verse was, to my mind, extremely funny. Please, can anyone supply the words? GRex |

Subject: RE: Who's for Wareham this year? From: My guru always said Date: 06 Sep 07 - 05:24 PM Yas, please try to listen to and understand what people are trying to tell you, and not attack people in the way that you are without thinking over your response in a rational way. I am asking you this in public as a friend. You are not normally nasty to people and I believe you owe Liz an apology. I am certain that most other Catters reading your response would agree with me. |
Subject: RE: Who's for Wareham this year? From: Dave Earl Date: 06 Sep 07 - 05:16 PM Yas Please! When the announcement was made the session came to a complete halt and Jim MacAdam was completely dumstruct for a minute or two. We restarted the session with Jim leading the song. I believe that Colin (who was a mate of mine)would not have wanted a session ended because of him. Those of us that knew Colin have expressed or sense of loss in the other threads and those of us that can are going ton the funeral. What is being said in this thread is that The Wail was a great success despite the loss of our friend and yours. Dave |
Subject: RE: Who's for Wareham this year? From: GUEST Date: 06 Sep 07 - 05:00 PM I would wish that more people made the effort to live their lives to the full, rather than just exist as some people do. Colin Kemp. God Bless him. |
Subject: RE: Who's for Wareham this year? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 06 Sep 07 - 04:48 PM And a response like that would likely make it the last for several people. How dare you! |

Subject: RE: Who's for Wareham this year? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 06 Sep 07 - 04:38 PM Scooby - why are you not jumping into other threads to tell us all how to grieve and mourn our friend? No mention on the Fylde Festival thread... no mention on the Towersey thread, where he'd also been in the past... nothing in the Secret Santa threads either. Surely we can't be thinking of doing the Secret Santa without Col, who was an integral part of it on more than one occasion...?! Why not in the Shrewsbury festival thread? Please, back off and keep the grief to the Obit and funeral threads. There were people at Wareham who haven't the foggiest idea who Col was. If you're ashamed of us, then fine, but keep it to yourself and admonish us individually in PMs and when we meet face to face. Wareham was a bloody great weekend until Sunday afternoon and lots of people want to remember it like that, before the hammer fell. LTS |

Subject: RE: Who's for Wareham this year? From: GUEST,Cats at Work Date: 06 Sep 07 - 08:54 AM Noreen ~ As part of the banquet the Lord and Lady always raise their glasses and we all drink a toast to 'absent friends'. Colin will always be remembered along with others who are no longer with us. |
Subject: RE: Who's for Wareham this year? From: GUEST,Noreen Date: 06 Sep 07 - 07:55 AM I have been following this thread with envy. Nothing and nobody is going to stop me getting to Wareham (or Verwood) next year. I am sure Colin's anniversary will be celebrated by all at WW in September 08. It will not be possible to forget him! |
Subject: RE: Who's for Wareham this year? From: My guru always said Date: 06 Sep 07 - 04:24 AM Another wonderful Wail, huge thanks to Alan & Nikkie, the Task Force & Crew and who all who made this such a special weekend for us all and indoctrinated a whole lotta virgins!! Thanks too to the artistry of Jacqui and the imagination of the Pimms workshop which helped to create the 'Squiggle of Boris', the 'Petal of Florist' and suchlike - great fun, roll on next year! The Magic Box is now safe and sound back on the mantelpiece where it belongs *grin* |
Subject: RE: Who's for Wareham this year? From: Andy Jackson Date: 05 Sep 07 - 05:13 AM When the news of Colin's early move to the other bar was announced , a silence you could almost taste fell over the room. Jim chose just the right song to bring us all back. Yes there where many tearfull eyes for a while but many laughs and perhaps slightly subdued merriment. Colin would have been proud and touched by our response I'm sure. Andy |
Subject: RE: Who's for Wareham this year? From: GUEST,Brian&Jacqui Date: 05 Sep 07 - 04:51 AM We did not know Colin well, but had met him, liked what we knew of him and were saddened by the news. We have seen him working at various festivals, doing any number of different jobs. Colin and people like him help to create the environment that generates the warmth, friendship and fun that you get at the Wail and other festivals. Without them it would not happen, and without the enjoyment their efforts would be wasted. Please do not regard our frivolity as disrespectful, but as a celebration. J&B |
Subject: RE: Who's for Wareham this year? From: Peter K Date: 05 Sep 07 - 01:52 AM A number of wailers have already indicated that they will be attending the Funeral. Believe me, we have not and will not forget Colin. Colin has attended the Wail on several occasions and thoroughly enjoyed himself, but he felt it was a bit far to travel for a weekend especially with Fylde just down the road. |
Subject: RE: Who's for Wareham this year? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 04 Sep 07 - 06:11 PM Because if he could, Colin would be the first to tell us to continue enjoying life and celebrating the good things. LTS |
Subject: RE: Who's for Wareham this year? From: Herga Kitty Date: 04 Sep 07 - 04:44 PM Yas - this is a thread about the Wareham Wail, which was brilliant, and which Col would have loved if he'd been there (and if it hadn't always clashed with Fylde). We heard about Col in the Sunday lunchtime singaround - the announcement was made by Richard of Taskforce just before it was Jim McAdams' turn to sing, and poor Jim had to follow it. He sang "Where ravens feed", very movingly. Please don't beat us up for celebrating the Wareham Wail on the WW thread - it deserves to be celebrated, and we aren't in any way hiding our grief about Colin, which we are expressing on the threads about Colin. Kitty |

Subject: RE: Who's for Wareham this year? From: Cats Date: 04 Sep 07 - 12:34 PM Forgot to say, Liz, that quite alot of the other groups had 'recognised songwriters' in them too. Subject: RE: Who's for Wareham this year? From: OLDNIC Date: 04 Sep 07 - 08:02 AM Well we thought that it was a superb weekend with Singarounds that were well run and democratic. What a change from those where "only my mates get a sing and we get lots" NO high viz jackets or walkie talkie toting control freaks. It was just simply lovely. The only problems arose from a misunderstanding with my Leige who did not understand a sincere compliment I did not call him Vassal but complimented him on his vast member. For this I was unfairly flagellated and what was far worse was deprived of any CRACKLING. This will be remembered Please could Alan and his lovely team run some Training Days for other organisers? Nic and Jacky |
Subject: RE: Who's for Wareham this year? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 04 Sep 07 - 04:00 AM I'm not entirely sure that having a recognised songwriter write your pigsong is really fair.. I vote he gets passed around next year - I have some suggestions I'd like to put to him... LTS |

Subject: RE: Who's for Wareham this year? From: Cats Date: 03 Sep 07 - 04:55 PM No probs Morty.... The Noble Pig Roasting It was early one morning, as I was a walking, I overheard a noble pig roasting, Between 2 gentlemen and a bloke in Wellingtons It was early just as the bar was opening. Ch There was Hampshire, Berkshire, Old Spot he was there O Tamworth he never cooked behind him There was Saddleback, Large Black, Oxford Black and Sandy These were the pigs we ate at Wareham. Now the first pig being young and his trials just beginning He made straight way for the Beer Tent The pig he did run in and we followed after him Thinking to drink his beer for ever. Now the next pig being old and his days nearly over He made straight way for the cream teas The jam he first put on and after that the cream Cholesterol destroyed his life forever. Alan drove across the plain, with a pig came back again His cooks and his singers never fail him For ever and a day, Old Alan he would say Sing on me brave boys all together. Written after a few bottles of excellent wine, champagne, Port and Brandy by Cllr, Champagne Carol, Cats and Jon Heslop. 2007 |

Subject: RE: Who's for Wareham this year? From: Eye Lander Date: 03 Sep 07 - 03:48 PM Hello Peeps Well it might have taken Andy 18 years to find the Wail but it was well worth the wait, such a relaxing weekend. I was worried on Saturday about the time flying by, it was only 1.15pm!! That gave me plenty of time for a snooze to enable me to stay up to the wee small hours. The banquet was such good fun, it was so good to see everyone in costume, the table service was outstanding, task force worked very very hard, did they have to sing for their supper?? Thanks to the kitchen crew. excellent service, always with a smile, yummy food, yummier scones (or scones) and cream.......... (sorry I was dribbling there for a minute). A big thank you to the girls for taking me under their wing, I laughed alot it was most therapeutic. It was lovely to reunite with so many friends. Thanks to Allan, Nikkie and their team, I do understand just how tired you must be, but book us in for next year please. Jillie |

No perhaps I should not say "PIG" My thanks to Alan & Nickie, the Task Force and anybody else who had a hand in creating the best Week-end of unaccompanied singing in England. Ta Very much Jim |
Subject: RE: Who's for Wareham this year? From: GUEST,Brian&Jacqui Date: 03 Sep 07 - 01:01 PM Thanks to Alan & Nickie , the family and all the crew for another great Verham (or is it Warewood?). We'd also like to add our thanks to everyone who came to the top tent sessions, the singing and variety of songs was superb. Hi Kaz (Petal). We were happy to help de-flower you, and won't be so gentle next time:-). It was lovely to meet you, and we enjoyed your singing. Hope to meet you again soon. Cats. I believe somebody (it may have been Andy S.) attempted to collect all (or as many as possible) of Dave Marshalls 'pig parodies' a while back. J&B |
Subject: RE: Who's for Wareham this year? From: Herga Kitty Date: 03 Sep 07 - 12:36 PM I've sent the link to this thread to Alan White (who's not a Catter), so hopefully he will see the confirmation of how much the virgins and hardened wailers enjoyed the weekend, and why we agree with him that it's worthwhile doing it again next year! Psychomorris - I think you're a hardened wailer who lost your virginity by actually singing rather than listening this year, aren't you? Anyway, I'm glad that you're gaining confidence and now losing your virginity all over the place. Kaz - I'm glad that you and the other virgins who hadn't been to the festival before had such a good time. We enjoyed your singing too! GRex - am I right in thinking that you sing about Dutchmen's trousers (among other topics)? Kitty PS should perhaps have said "seasoned" rather than "hardened".... |
Subject: RE: Who's for Wareham this year? Jack is now booked into the 'Crap-be-Gone' Rehab and Social Training Centre where he will be fumigated, detoxed and possibly stomach-pumped. LTS |

Subject: RE: Who's for Wareham this year? From: Severn Date: 03 Sep 07 - 06:33 AM A Yank's thanks to all who helped make the Wareham Wail a wonderful and thoroughly enjoyable experience for a wandering visitor and first-time attendee. To Morti, who suggested that I attend and paved the way for it after only have known me in Mudcat print, something I hope you didn't have any cause to regret beyond my returning Jack to your camp. To Hils, Richard and Liz The Squeak, who transported me to and from the event and provided food and lodging at their homes as well. Also, of course, to those who transported me to various places of delight in song and story. To all those who offered cures both refreshingly liquid and genuinely medicinal for a bad throat, hopefully enabling anything I performed to be "rendered" in the manner befitting a good folk song, and NOT in that befitting a carcass for a banquet. To all translators, instigators, advisors, cooks, costumers and organizers who helped out a bewildered foreigner. To the Middell Barre Table for adopting me and bringing me into the dinner plans, songs and plots. And to all the Mudcat names who now have faces to go with them, as well as new friends and contacts some of whom, hopefully, I will be sharing songs and correspondance well into the future. I hope I was able to give back something somewhere near the quality and of the spirit what I recieved. I hope to be able to return someday, should they still decide to let any Yanks in in the future . |

Subject: RE: Who's for Wareham this year? If anyone has any kicking about, can you pm me and I'll get it sorted for next year. I have 3 or 4 of Dave Marshall's from when the idea first came about. |
Subject: RE: Who's for Wareham this year? From: GRex Date: 03 Sep 07 - 04:46 AM Mrs Rex and I thoroughly endorse the comments by Cats & Kitty. A great weekend, new faces, old faces, new songs, old song and some excellent voices. Many thanks to Alan & Nikkie, a great and successful effort. Weekend spoilt during the Saturday Evening Sing as I was sitting directly behind Jack. A rear view of Jack with his tail in th air. What did the Queen say about having had a very bad year? A horrible anus! See you all there next year. GRex |

Life cannot get much better, Such a friendly bunch of people all round. Brilliant singing and good fun. I never said goodbye to many people when I left and take this opportunity to do so now. felt rude when I got home. My hangover kicked in from the too much enjoyment at the banquet so drifted away. Alan I hope all is well for next year. Thanks to Kitty and Dereck who encouraged and supported me to sing. Have lost my virginity so many places this year. |
