Subject: Sessions in London

I'm going to be in London on next Monday (30th July) and again on Saturday 11th August.

If anyone knows of anything folkie going on in the city or its environs can they let me know please, particularly for next Monday.

My preference would be for an Irish Trad session, but anything either for joining in or for listening would be of interest.

Thanks,

Declan

Thanks Leadfingers.

I'll be staying near King's Cross on the Monday and Paddington on the Saturday. But I'd like to hear about any options and I can then decide whether I think its worth travelling there and back.

There's a bluegrass session in the Hemingford Arms (Islington) on Monday evening – if you take the 91, 17 or 259 from Kings Cross from York Way up Caledonian Road, it's about a 10 minute journey.

London's a bit short on Monday or Saturday night Irish Trad sessions at the moment.
There's one in O'Neills in Richmond (I'm told it's right by the station) 9pm start. I've not been but I know some of the musicians so it should be good.
The Herschel Arms in Slough is still going strong on a Monday night, if you like your music fast and furious and don't mind a late night! It's walkable from the station but not particularly close.

If you are still around on the Sunday afternoon, there's a session in the Crown in Cricklewood, about 3.30 start. There might be some other Sunday lunchtime sessions - check on The Session web site.

Good luck
Helen

When did they move Slough to London ? and why wasn't I told about it?

Point taken but it's quicker to get from Paddington to Slough by train than it is to get to Richmond by tube.

Terry
If you mean the Monday session at St Margaret's in Twickenham that one is no more and the same musicians now play at O'Neills in Richmond. If there's another one please let us know!!

You can get from King's Cross to Herga (via Northwood Hills) on the Metropolitan line. Declan - will you be using public transport or driving?

I'll be using Public Transport.

Is it feasible to get to your club by Public Transport and get back to King's Cross that night without having to leave too early?

Declan - yes, because the club runs from 8-10.30, and the Metropolitan line runs later.

Thanks Kitty.

I'll try to get along if I've recovered sufficiently from Cambridge.

Somebody above mentions the bluegrass session at the Hemingford Arms, Hemingford Road. That still happens on Monday evenings and is just north of Kings Cross on the bus route and close to Caledonian Road tube station. The beer is good and with the no smoking law in force it is an even more pleasant way to spend a Monday evening, plus I understand the Thai food is pretty good.

Declan - thanks for your contributions to this evening's singing at Herga. I hope you got back to Kings Cross without difficulty - see you in Sidmouth!

Kitty,

Thanks to you and the others at Herga for making me feel very welcome. It was nice to meet a number of Mudcatters in person. I got back to my hotel safe and sound.

I'm heading to Sidmouth tomorrow, I may see some of you there.

Declan

Shame you will miss The George Session on Monday.
English, French and Breton music mainly.
I shall be there with my concertina ,but the August Session is usually the smallest of the Year.It is held every First Monday unless it is a Bank Holiday and then it is the week after.

Coming from Dublin I'd be a bit dodgy abput going to a session in a pub called "The George", which is the name of Dublin's best known Gay bar.

Any suggestions for this Saturday night?

One of the best ITM sessions is at O'neils in Richmond on a Monday - regulars are Brian Kelly, Jamie Smith, Tad Sargent and Martin Long . Starts at 9, Free beer and hang sangwidges
for musicians

The George is not a gay pub Declan, but it is a customary for your handbag to match the green paintwork.
