Looking through some old notes I have I found the words of a song possibly Southern Appalachian   Has anone run in to this song? History?
Story as follows - verse 1"Come all ye fair maidens-story of old Kentucky-and learn of Laura Williams fate"   verse2 Takes bucket from kitcher goes to spring, verse3 Goes to the river leaves bucket "have mercy Lord I must do an awful thing"
verse5 Climbs tall rock by the river river has no bottom where she choses to lie Verse6 lays bonnet tells mother not to weep I have just gone to sleep verse7gazes upon the river gives a cry must not lose courage Lord it is so hard to die   verse7 gives a mighty leap sinks beneath waters verse 8 any listen to my story be warned before its too late think of little Lauras fate.
