Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Just Because (B & J Shelton, S Robin) From: PHJim Date: 06 Sep 23 - 11:17 PM JUST BECAUSE (Bob & Joe Shelton, Sid Robin) [C] Just because you think you're so pretty, And just because you think you're so [G] hot, Well, just because you think you've got something That [G7] no other girl has [C] got, You've caused me to spend all my money. You laughed and called me [C7] old Santa [F] Claus. Well, I'm telling [Cdim] you, Baby, [C] I'm [B] through [Bb] with [A] you. Be[D7]cause, [G7] just be[C]cause. [G7] All verses are the same chords and the last one ends with: Well, I'm telling [Cdim] you, Baby, [C] I'm [B] through [Bb] with [A] you. Be[D7]cause, [G7] just be[C]cause. [B][Bb][A] Be[D7]cause [G7] just be[C]cause. This is how I play it. You may want to change the key to suit your range. |
Subject: Lyr Add: JUST BECAUSE NO. 3 (Shelton Brothers) From: Jim Dixon Date: 06 Sep 23 - 08:40 PM This is my transcription from the recording at the Internet Archive: JUST BECAUSE NO. 3 As recorded by the Shelton Brothers (Bob and Joe) on Decca 5367 A, 1937. Just because you think you’re an angel, Just because your mother thinks you’re cute, I won’t give you ev’rything you ask for. She calls me names and says that I’m a brute. When I put the ring upon your finger, And partners you and I agreed to be, I thought it would be fine When I signed upon the line, But it seems I married all your family. Just because I sent you lots of candy, Just because I bought you diamond rings, Just because I ordered you a fur coat, You thought you had me goin’ round in rings. I’m tellin you that I am not a sainty. If you play with fire, it’s sure to burn. So, baby, don’t you see While you’re playin’ round with me, I’m expectin’ somethin’ from you in return. Just because you think you’ve got a figger, And in a bathin’ suit you look so neat, Just because you look good in pajamas, You run around and wear ‘em on the street. I must admit that you’re an eyeful. You know that you’re as pretty as can be, But, baby, ease my nerves And cover up those curves Because, just because. |
Subject: Lyr Add: JUST BECAUSE (Shelton Brothers) From: Jim Dixon Date: 06 Sep 23 - 08:17 PM Here’s my transcription from the recording at the Internet Archive: JUST BECAUSE As recorded by the Shelton Brothers (Bob and Joe) on Decca 46008 A, 1935. Just because you think you’re so purty, Just because you think you’re so hot, Just because you think you’ve got something That nobody else has got, Though you made me spend all my money, Then you laughed and called me ol’ Santy Claus, But I’m tellin’ you, Honey, I’m leavin’ you, Because, just because. Just because you think I’ll be lonesome, Just because you think I’ll be blue, Just because you think I’ll be foolish To stay at home an’ wait for you, Though you made me drop all my girlfriends, Then you laughed and called me Mister Santy Claus, But I’m tellin’ you, Baby, I’m through with you, Because, just because. There’ll come a time you’ll be lonesome. There’ll come a day you’ll be blue, When ol’ Santy Claus won’t be near you To pay the bills for you. Though you may say that I’m foolish, But there just ain’t no Santy Claus, I’m tellin’ you, Good gal, I’m through with you, Because, just because. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Just Because (B & J Shelton, S Robin) From: PHJim Date: 26 Jul 10 - 12:56 PM Jorma Kokanon does a fine job of this tune with, if I remember correctly, Bela Fleck on banjo. Jim Dixon - a D9 chord can be played 5X4555X or X545555 or even X00210. As long as it has a D,F#,A,C & E it's some inversion of D9. It can also be called an Am7. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Just Because (B & J Shelton, S Robin) From: LeTenebreux Date: 26 Jul 10 - 06:43 AM Before I heard this song, I was exposed to a version of it for square dancing. The verses are replaced by sung/spoken dance calls, and everyone (including all the dancers) are supposed to come in on "Because Just Because". |
