This is probably the most widely used theme in traditional lyric songs. Pete Seeger once observed that there were so many songs of "unrequited love" because when love was requited folks were too darned busy to make up songs.

In thinking about songs for the best love song thread, I am reminded of several songs of lost love (many of which were mentioned in the that thread). My favourite of these is "Boots of Spanish Leather" by Bob Dylan.

How about it 'catters, what's your favourite song of a love lost?
