Subject: Obit: Liam Duffy From: stallion Date: 29 Jul 07 - 10:23 AM I know it is late but I thought maybe better late than never, I have been told that Liam Duffy had left us, the ceremony was last Friday in Nottingham. I first met him when the Grimsby folk club mob landed in York thirty or so more years ago, he stayed with Martin Gardham for a while and did some work for me, I had the treat of seeing him in a suit!. Many a good and drunken night we had, my favourite song from Liam was "Roisin the Bow". Cheers mate, so long. Peter |

Subject: RE: Obit: Liam Duffy (July 2007) From: Kampervan Date: 29 Jul 07 - 04:04 PM Oh bugger! I was a member of a group called Lindsey and back in the 70's we ran the folk club at the Royal Oak on Victoria Street. Liam was a frequent and welcome performer, great character and everyone loved him. I am so sorry to hear that the inevitable has finally caught up with him. Thanks for all the good times Liam, and God speed. K/van |

Subject: RE: Obit: Liam Duffy (July 2007) From: GUEST,Captain Swing Date: 30 Jul 07 - 04:01 PM I remember Liam from the Mucky Duck in Victoria St then later the Sub and the Royal Oak. he was also a regular guest at Louth Folk Club (The Lincolnshire Poacher). There's a story (maybe a legend - Keith Brown told me ) that Liam was due to move away from Cleethorpes to start a new job. He held a send-off do at the bar on Cleethorpes station. The do was such a success that he missed his train and didn't go. Was anyone at that do? |
Subject: RE: Obit: Liam Duffy (July 2007) From: GUEST,old git Date: 30 Jul 07 - 06:57 PM yes I have fond memories of Liam...I remember sharing a picket line with him when protesting about Nirex's atempt to build a nuclear dump on South Humberside....we did a lot of singing!!!!.....and that walking stick was waved a lot!!! Fortunately I saw him a year (or was it two?) ago when I performed in a charity concert he helped to organise. His health wasn't brilliant but the sparkle was still there. RIP mate geoff t |
