Subject: session in Wellington? From: Clean Supper Date: 04 Aug 07 - 11:33 PM Hi, I'm about to be be based in Wellington, New Zealand, and wondering if anyone knows of any sessions or manifestations of the folk scene thereabouts. :) |
Subject: RE: session in Wellington? From: Uke Date: 05 Aug 07 - 12:16 AM Howdy Clean Supper, Welcome in advance to Wellington - there's enough going on here folk-wise to keep you busy I'm sure! Probably the best place to look for info on local clubs, singarounds and concerts is here: Acoustic Routes Specifically for sessions: Irish sessions in Wellington And there's plenty of related links on both those pages. See ya round Uke |
Subject: RE: session in Wellington? From: GUEST,Nikkiwi Date: 05 Aug 07 - 01:27 AM You could also try the kiwifolk website - http://kiwifolk.org.nz and/or join the NZ-folk mailing list (I think the link is on the kiwifolk site). both are good resources for the folk/trad scene around NZ in general. Then, of course there is the Wellington folk festival in October.... Cheers Nick |

Subject: RE: session in Wellington? From: sneeble Date: 15 Aug 07 - 05:39 AM I attend the Monday session at Molly's there is a huge amount going on and there is also the Wellington Folk Festival in October www.wellingtonfolkfestival.org.nz There is a huge amount going on in Wellington but most if not all is not advertised. Start with Acoustic routes and/or the sessions, the same people tend to be involved in everything and newcomers are welcomed like old friends. You will soon get to know what is going on. |
Subject: RE: session in Wellington? From: GUEST,clean supper Date: 15 Aug 07 - 08:35 PM Little Robyn, you should look for a 31 year old man with a silly haircut who sings original political as well as traditional folk songs and plays the odd Celtic tune and likes to do Irish and Scottish country dancing (and watch the step dancing). I can see from the websites you gave me that there's a lot on each month so I'm sure to show up at some of the things soon. My girlfriend lives in Kelburn now so that might affect what sessions are easy to get to (when I learn where that and other places are). The computer I'm on doesn't seem to like cookies, despite the settings saying that it does, hence the guest log ins. see you soon |
Subject: RE: session in Wellington? From: Little Robyn Date: 16 Aug 07 - 06:47 AM If you're in Kelburn, just go down in the Cable Car and walk around Lambton Quay, up Willis Street and you're almost there - just a few more streets. I used to walk all round there years ago but not any more. Robyn |
Subject: RE: session in Wellington? From: Little Robyn Date: 16 Aug 07 - 06:52 AM There's a map that might help here . Robyn |
Subject: RE: session in Wellington? From: sneeble Date: 18 Aug 07 - 04:44 PM If it is of any help there are 3 sessioners I can think of immediately who live in the Kelburn/Karori area, the last bus through Kelburn is about 11:30pm. Wellington has the best public transport system in NZ, many wellingtonions dont own cars and rely on the system to travel. Public transport in the Wellington region |
