Just checked the Digitrad for these two songs that Ian Tyson sang back in the folk days and found no lyrics listed. Anyone have transcriptions of either or both songs that you could post here? Many thanks in advance.

Subject: Lyr Add: PLAY ONE MORE (Ian Tyson)
From: Cluin
Date: 14 Aug 07 - 02:20 PM

Been playing and singing this one since I was a kid and didn't know what the hell it was about. My Dad taught it to me. Great song, that's all.

Play One More
Ian Tyson c.1966

Play one more
And then I'm leavin', boys
Pick one more
Let those guitars ring
I can't tarry
Here too long, for I do believe
She been high-strung
Like a swallow on the wing

She may be go-one

Well, this smoky laughin' room does seem to ease my mind
Not to mention a few too many that I've had
But I'll pack my guitar up, for I do believe
she been high-strung and lately feelin' bad

She may be go-one

Well we ain't been gettin' along for bout a month or more
Yes, I might be better off if she'd just go
But to get home with the dawn and find an empty room
Could I stand the pain? I really don't think so

So play one more
And then I'm leavin', boys
Yes, pick one more
Let those guitars ring
I can't tarry
Here too long, for I do believe
She been high-strung
Like a swallow on the wing

She may be go-one

Go-one

Ooooo Ooooo.

My Dad used to sing this one all the time too. Another great song. I must've heard it about a thousand times. Off the top of my head...

(Rick Turner played the guitar break)

Friends of Mine
Ian Tyson c. 1966

These friends of mine, we shared some good times together
Days of sunshine, days of rain
Many jobs and many towns we worked and never
Cared if we saw the same towns again

Then one day, we weren't as young as before
Our mistakes weren't quite so easy to undo
But by all those roads, my friend, we travel down
I'm a better man for just the knowin' of you

These friends of mine, they never cared about tomorrow
It was too early in the game
They'd stay a while until the day they'd get to wonderin'
If the far side of the hill looked the same

And they settle down somewhere along the way
And some went on, as some men do
But by all those roads, my friend, we travel down
I'm a better man for just the knowin' of you

(Ah, Rick...)

And they settle down somewhere along the way
Yes, and some went on, as some men do
But by all those roads, my friend, we travel down
I'm a better man for just the knowin' of you

And by all those roads, my friend, we traveled down
I'm a better man for just the knowin' of you

Just got the great Vanguard compilation from the library. It says the great guitar solo on Friends is by Rick Turner. Don't know him, but it is good to hear the songs without the scratches on my old lp's.
Whoever did the Vanguard recordings did a smart job of putting the voices on separate sides, so that I can reset the levels to hear the great harmonies they did. The newer cd's don't seem to take the same care with recording harmonies.

Ian & Sylvia always used to mix those early stereo recordings that way. My mom used to sit beside whichever speaker Sylvia was coming out of to learn her harmony parts exactly so she could sing them that way with my Dad.

And that kind of radical mixing was pretty common back then. Even the Beatles recordings used to have vocals or instruments swept either completely left or right. Some songs have no vocals at all in one side and all of them on the other. Mon mixes were the standard for AM radio play singles and the stereo mixes an afterthought for LP release later.

Not if the chords are 100%; corrections are invited:

These Friends of Mine

These friends of (F)mine we shared some good times to-(Bb)gether
Days of (Gm)sunshine, days of (C)rain
Many (F)jobs and many towns we worked and (Bb)never
Cared if (Gm)we saw the same towns a-(C)gain
Then one (F)day we weren't as young as be-(Bb)fore
Our mis-(F)takes weren't quite so (Am)easy to un-(Gm)do (C7)
But by (F)all those roads my friends we traveled (Bb)down
I'm a better (F)man for just a-(Bb)know-(C)in' (F)you

These friends of mine they never cared about tomorrow
It was too early in the game
They'd stay awhile until the day they'd get to wondering
If the far side of the hill looked the same
And they settled down somewhere along the way
And some went wrong as some men do
But by all those roads my friends we traveled down
I'm a better man for just a-knowin' you

"putting the voices on separate sides"
Pure left and right was pretty common in the early days of stereo LPs. I recall one of Ian & Sylvia's early albums not listing 'lead & rhythm guitar' in the credits, but rather 'left & right guitar'. Chuckled then; chuckle now.

Rick Turner has, for the last thirty years or so, been a noted luthier. He was a member of the Alembic group building guitars and basses for the Greatful Dead, CSN&y, etc. He built Lindset Buckingham's signature revoving pickup guitar.

You can, Mick. Just use a "pre" code in angle brackets before and after the section you want in monospace font.

Love this song, have the old album. Thanks for the chords. The timing of some chords works out differently in my memory and on my guitar when I sing it as Ianand Sylvai do it in my memory and on utube, but this key and chord progression sound like the original.
