Thanks Sandra, only just joined & did not know what BS meant. So here is the thread again above the line.
Poms from Oz are an (Australian) family trio of singers (mainly a cappella). They'll be in the Uk from 6 Sep to 14 Oct 2007, mainly in North England & want to do as much singing as possible in the time.
Will probably go to Eire early in the piece for about a week. Also hoping to get to the Black Sheep festival at Otley.
The rest of the time we'll try to get to as many clubs & sessions as we can. Would also be nice to spend some time in Devon/Cornwall or the SE if there's something interesting there. Depends on finding somewhere affordable to stay.
Are there any DIY singing weekends similar to the Song & Ales at Pennymore or Upper Dicker in that period?

"Poms from Oz" are definitely worth a listen and, because the youngest of the three does lovely Auslan translations with at least some of their material, worth watching as well.

This family trio have exceptionally well-matched voices, and sing a great range of material with stunning harmonies. Do invite them along if they are within reach of you.

All the venues I visited with the Shiny Bum Singers would love them if they do go south - Bude, Herga and the Good Intent Rochester.

Judy Pomeroy did make me the most beautiful musical shirt that Sandra refers to. And their tropical Townsville home even has a python in the bathroom. So you will find them talented, and full of exotic surprises.

Oh bugger! - you'll just miss the Wareham Wail the previous weekend(wonderful weekend of DIY unaccompanied singing and mirth). But it sounds as though you might be able to get to Whittlebury Song and Ale in Northamptonshire - PM BB for info. Also, Swanage festival in Dorset runs from 8-10 September.

Mr Happy, Wiggy has moved to a smaller house near Manchester. I'm not sure we'll fit & may have to base ourselves further north in Stockton or Settle. It may be difficult to spend much time in Chester. Won't really know till we arrive & sort it out. I remember a session in a tent at Bridgenorth. Was I the one who fell off the stool?

Herga Kitty, ta for the suggestion, I've PM'd BB (is that a verb?). Hope I've got the right person. Song & Ales are great, we've been to some at Pennymore & one at Upper Dicker.

Gazza2, small world. Might be able to get to Upton. Should be back from Cork by then. Which Upton is it? Haven't seen any info on the web.

Currently in Leeds & moving on to Settle today (Wed). Have already sung at Bollington, Middlewich & Leeds. Great craic.
Back to Bangor for the weekend & intend to go to the Nelson on Fri & Conwy on Mon. Then back to Poynton or Settle mid week & finally to Otley for the festival (or at least part of it). Next is Stockton on Tees for the following weekend, then probably back down south. Looks like we can't fit Eire in so will give that a miss.

I'll try to start ringing around once we're at Settle, it's been a tad busy getting organised to date. (Organised seems a bit too strong for what we're doing. Is there a word for somewhere between organised & muddled?)

Due to unforseen circumstances at the Union Vaults[Big Screen Footie], Mr Happy & fiends were prevented from their weakly sinaround & adjourned to the Royal Oak in Faulkener Street, Hoole, Chester, where the 'Come-All-Ye' took place.

The lanlord was very welcoming & we'll be going there next Wednesday as well.

Not sure yet if this will be a permanent move, but will keep all concerned posted.

It's been difficult to get on the web, currently in a library at Menai Bridge. Had some emails to my westnet email address which I cannot read due to Westnet's spam filtering service. So if you've sent something please try again with a unique heading & no attachments.
Great sessions at the Nelson in Bangor & Conway FC. Now leaving Wales for Settle. Will stay there for about a week over Otley FF then on to Stockton for another week. Maybe Hull briefly, then Worksop (briefly)& down to Rochester & SE. Back to Poynton about the 8th Oct.
Arthur @ Bollington & Dave @ Middlewich are keen to organise an event each featuring us somewhere in our last week. ie 8 -13 Oct. will advise when finalised.
Joybell- good to hear from, you will catch you back in Oz.
Mary- hoping to get SE around 4 Oct
Hawker- don't think we can make it to Devon/Cornwall

Club night is on Friday 5th and we have Heather Innes and Ciaron Dorris as guests. It would be lovely if you could make it and sing at Seaford (south coast halfway between Brighton and Eastbourne) Club.

Al, sad that you wont make Cornwall. We have to make a trip to my Parents in Macclesfield, probably the weekend of the 5,6,7 October, as you are not coming this way then, We will be returning to Cornwall on 7th and you to Poynton on 8th! So near and yet so far! I grew up around poynton bollington and Macclesfield. lovely part of the world.

Otley FC last wed & scored a spot at the festival. 2140 @ the Red Lion.
Also have choir workshop on 7-Oct @ Newcastle under Lymm. 1100 - 1600. Might make it a bit awkward to go south but we'll still try.
Off to Hull next Tue, Wed then Thu at Stockton.

Real pity you can't make Cornwall as the Cornish Voice Tour is in Falmouth the weekend of 12/13/14 October. We take over a hotel for the whole weekend with others in overspill B%B nearby. Outstanding singing. We sing Friday night in the bar, Saturday lunchtime in a pub on the harbour side, Saturday night and sunday lunchtime we are back in the hotel singing. It would only have cost your B&B as the singing is free and open to anyone. It's definitley worth a detour. :-))

Hi All

Currently in Stockton. Will go to the Sun tonight (Mon) to hear our mates 'Fore & Aft' & hopefully get in a song or two. Heard Lou Killen & Mike Waterson @ the Welly last Thu. Great night, interesting songs, huge choruses from the assembled throng & 4 Wilsons in full flight. Otley was really good as well. Lots of singing & a chance to hear the New Rope String Band who were funny & clever as before.

The Notts trip is off (see Zany Mouse comments elsewhere) so we'll go to Settle for a few days on Tue & use that as a base. There's plenty of music around there & it will be interesting to see a bit more of the Dales.

Fixed dates are Sun 7th @ Newcastle u Lyme for a choir workshop & an extended spot @ the Middlewich session on Sat 13th. Bollington is definitely off

Cats – would love to come but no time left

Mad Jock – singing is fun & relaxing for us. Our club at home meets once a fortnight & the nearest population centres are hundreds of miles in every direction. It's wonderful to be able to sing every night if you want to.

The Poms from Oz have just finished running a fantastic day`s workshop with our choir the Loud Mouth Women in Newcastle-Under-Lyme. They`ve taught us loads of great new songs and rounds, and given us some helpful vocal health advice and warm ups and sung to us beautifully as well.

So thanks a million to Alan, Judy and Kathy for giving us such a great day and fitting us into their UK tour.

Thanks to Liz Rosenfield for telling us they were over here and to Mudcat for helping us to all get together.

Hopefully we`ll see them again at the Middlewich session before they go home.
