I've just got back from doing a festival in Kynton Victoria and was on the bill with Albert Lee. He blew me away! What a guitarist! I was lucky enough to have him play keyboards on a song I sang on the Rock 'n' Roll night we had at midnight Saturday.

I SANG "THAT'LL BE THE DAY" WITH ONE OF THE "CRICKETS"!! AND.... I got PAID for it!

I've really got some bragging rights here in Perth now.

I can now die a happy man.

He's been good - no, A MONSTER, forever. He was a monster before he started playing in Emmylou's "Hot Band," and he's done nothing but get more MONSTERIZED every year. I'm happy for you that you met him and had an opportunity to perform with him. Cheers.

On this whistle-stop tour he was backed by local band "Wheelers & Dealers". They only had two rehearsals but you would have thought that they had been playing together all their lives! Well done guys!

Saw him at Jagz, Ascot, with Hogan's Heroes, played mean boogie piano as well as that fine guitar, seems a great guy, too- always reminds me of Spike Milligan to look at. Also seen him several times with Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings on guitar & mandolin & occasionally keyboard.

I think folks are just having some fun here, not ragging on you.
I saw him with Emmylou a long time ago and he is a marvel. Sharing a stage with him will be something to tell the grandkids.

I think my favourite quote from Albert was, "Why play one note when you can play ten!". Obviously said with tongue in cheek, but the way Albert plays, I want to hear those ten notes!

Er, no. That was Arthur Brown. Lives in Lewes (Sussex, England). Turned up at one of the folk clubs once and sang The Great Silky.

Albert Lee was guitarist of an East London band called Head, Hands And Feet in the period 1968-1971 (I know, because I started work as a cub reporter on the Ilford Pictorial!) Their debut album, called Head, Hands And Feet, was amazing - the song Country Boy was pretty blistering, with the Master playing as if there was no tomorrow. I've kept the album all these years - what am I bid for this fine piece of plastic?

fantastic. Albert is a frightening guitar player isn't he? I, too, saw him playing with the Cleverly Brothers a few years back here in Florida.
"Country Boy" is breathtaking. I don't have the "Head, Hands & Feet" version, but I do have the version that he did on his solo album "Hiding" (I think that's the name of it at least; it's been a while since I even looked at the old vinyl.)
All in all a nice memory for you to have. Glad you had the opportunity to share the stage with him. Cheers, Steve R.

Head Hands & Feet had another album called Tracks & See For Miles Records released a cd version of it as well as their first album & another one called Home From Home - The Missing Years.

I can remember Albert's life nearly being shortened during his Heads Hands & Feet period!

They were doing a gig at the Greyhound at Fulham Palace Rd (west London) and there were a few inebriated people sitting on the floor of the gallery with their legs hanging down above the heads of the band.

One of these people managed to drop a pint glass (one of the old dimple ones) on to the stage, nearly braining Albert in the process. He just did a sideways sway & carried on with a little smile on his face.

That place probably contributed to my hearing loss - they used to book incredibly loud Led Zeppelin clones with enormous PAs in a room about the side of a caravan (trailer).

Somwhat off topic, but I saw Ian Dury there with Kilburn and the Highroads - drape jackets and attitude! Their disabled drummer was marooned behind his kit while the rest of the band went off for a drink in the interval.

Head, Hands And Feet changed their name to Poet And The One-Man Band. I last them at one of the numerous free festivals in North London, but I don't think that Arthur was with them.

Alvin Lee is indeed from Nottingham< Backwoodsman, and is in fact called Graham Barnes.
