Subject: Obit: Syd of the Jug From: bill\sables Date: 03 Sep 07 - 03:00 PM I've just got the news that Syd Bolton of the Jug Inn, Chapel Hadelsley has died, Syd was our host every wednesday when we met and played at the Jug He was also the first host of the Yorkshire Gathering. He did have heart trouble and left the Jug for health reasons and lived and worked in an off licence in Bridlington. My sympathies go out to Val his wife and his family. Bill |
Subject: RE: Obit: Syd of the Jug From: nutty Date: 03 Sep 07 - 03:10 PM So Sorry to hear about this Bill ... All the bad news seems to be coming at once. I have good memories of the Yorkshire Gatherings at the Jug. Condolences to his family. Hazel |
Subject: RE: Obit: Syd of the Jug From: Geoff the Duck Date: 03 Sep 07 - 04:07 PM Syd used to look after us all. On my first proper "date" with Jane, she took us out to the Jug to get Syd's approval. Luckily I passed!. The last time I saw Syd was at a funeral. There have been far too many this year. Syd will be remembered along with all the fun we had at the Jug. Our wishes are with Val and their family. Geoff. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Syd of the Jug From: Tig Date: 03 Sep 07 - 05:21 PM Another wonderful person who has gone before. Without his pub and the music sessions there I would never have become a Mudcat. Big Hugs to Val and family. Tig, Badger and Firecat |
Subject: RE: Obit: Syd of the Jug From: Sorcha Date: 03 Sep 07 - 07:02 PM OK, whoever is In Charge Up There can just stop this now. One a year is rather acceptable, but Col and Syd in the same week is just too much. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Syd of the Jug From: GUEST,Partridge Date: 04 Sep 07 - 03:03 AM I used to love the sessions at the Jug, and made so many friends there. Sid was a lovely character. The Jug lost its heart when they left. I'm so sorry to hear this news. Much love to Val. Pat xxx |
Subject: RE: Obit: Syd of the Jug From: mouldy Date: 04 Sep 07 - 06:07 AM Syd and Val made the Jug a home from home for me while Ian was abroad. My older daughter worked as a waitress, and later as a barmaid for him, and he will always be "Uncle Syd" to her. It's very true that the pub lost its heart when they left. I have come to the conclusion that someone has organised a festival "up there". They have the dancers, musicians and a bloody good chief steward. Now they need someone to run the bar! Andrea |
Subject: RE: Obit: Syd of the Jug From: catspaw49 Date: 04 Sep 07 - 06:39 AM Sorry to hear Bill........yet another loss. Bill's tales from The Jug and his news from Yorkshire was great fun for those of us across the pond here who were never there. Bill made us feel as though we were regulars. So thanks Bill, and thanks to Syd for providing the venue which played an important part of the early days of the 'Cat. Rest easy Syd. Spaw |
Subject: RE: Obit: Syd of the Jug From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 04 Sep 07 - 07:02 AM I never got to a Jug session but always made a point of calling in to the Jug for a pint and some lunch when on my way to York up the A19. Good food and good beer always. R |
