The DT consists of songs, so no, there generally tunes without words in there, and I don't think there are plans to include them.

There are loads of places on the web that DO focus on instrumental music.

So why is there a Subject: 'Tune Add'on the website if not to add tunes?

Songs are sung to tunes and the tunes added go to songs. Do a Filter search for 'tune add:', set the Age to 3 years, click 'Refresh' and see what threads other people have started using the 'Tune Add' prefix.

Planxty Burke is indeed a lovely tune. Has any one ever heard of any lyrics for it, or laid on it?

I think it's great to also have tunes on MC.

This is the Planxty Burke that I was thinking about,
actually it's Planxty Joe Burke.
Joe Burke is a legendary (in his own time) Irish button box player. This tune, a hornpipe, was written in honor of him by Charlie Lennon. It's a real fun piece to play.

Here's the abc (from thesession.org)

X:1
T:Planxty Joe Burke
R:hornpipe
C:Charlie Lennon
M:4/4

Hi Stewart

Have a listen to Planxty Burke on the COntemplator site link Ive put in. Its by O'Carolan.. You have to scroll down to the tune as there is music playing in the background. Its not the same tune as Planxty Joe Burke. Have a listen to the link Ive found.
http://www.linnrecords.com/recording-first-footing-cd.aspx Sounds a good tune tho and not so difficult to learn.

cheers

Another good site is this one, which lists all the Carolan tunes plus words, where there were any.

Carolan enthusiasts who are also guitar players must take a look at this site by Mike ("The Doc") Lydiat. He has arranged every Carolan tune for guitar in, I think, the original key - hence the use of a great many open tunings.

All his tunes are available as Tabledit and Midi files, plus a few YouTube performances.
