I'll be meeting up with a dear old college friend this weekend from Calcutta India who only gets to the states every 8 yrs or so. He loves acoustic music, harmony singing, bluegrass, flatpicking, songs from everyone from Simon & Garfunkel to the Grateful Dead, etc - any suggestions for live music opportunities in the Cambridge/Boston MA area this coming weekend (9/28-30)?

Thanks in advance!

There's the Portsmout Maritime fest (where many mudcatter's including myself will be) in Portsmouth NH about an hour 15 minutes north of Boston Dave.
Aslo try Boston Folk Song Society's web site & the Thrusday Boston Globe's calander section, great for folk listings. Wumb's site lists folk happenings & events & google "Music For Robin" there's or was a calander there too.
Have a good visit Dave
Barry

Thanks Barry. Wish I could make it up to Portsmouth; there's still a possibility, but it seems unlikely.

Do your interest extend (descend?) to filk? MASSFILC is having a potluck, meeting, and sing Saturday afternoon. joe_f@verizon.net

An hour and 15?! You drive slow, Barry. ;-)

Dave, you might luck out at Club Passim in Harvard Square. It is definitely more of a singer-songwriter venue now, but I've lucked out and seen some great stuff there.

You could also see who's scheduled to play at Johnny D's in Davis Square, Somerville. They have a good mix of acts that range from folk and acoustic rock to blues and jazz. Same goes for the backroom of The Burren, which is down the street -- although that seems to have gone more rock-oriented recently...still worth a shot though.

Of course, I'd rather see you guys join us for the Maritime Festival, since it sounds like that's right up his alley, but if you can't make it these should provide a start.

Peter

Dave: If you don't know what filk is, you almost surely aren't interested. However, FWIW, it is quasi folk music produced by science-fiction fans.
