Yes, folks, Extravaganza 13 is almost here!

On Sunday October 14th 2007 at the Royal Oak, 172 Manchester Road, Werneth, Oldham OL9 7BN you can see Hughie Jones, George Papavgeris and Trio Threlfall for the measly sum of 12 English Pounds!

We start around 2:00pm with a singaround, and finish just before midnight. The format of the day is singarounds interpersed with guest spots - and the standard of singers is always high.

If you'd like to book tickets, ring John and Pauline on 0161 681 3618 (website), and listen out for them on Oldham Community Radio on Monday October 8th as they talk to Ali O'Brien about the club.

If you can't tune in on 99.7fm, try online!

Pardon? What time? Oh yes!! 7pm to 8pm, repeated at the same time on Fridays!

Oh No Bernard!! I can't possibly come - you've managed to pick the Banbury weekend. When am I ever going to get up to another Extravaganza? I really enjoyed the ones I got to & I'd recommend anyone who can get along to go. And you've got George!!

Erm, I didn't pick that weekend, Hil! John and Pauline did!

Yes, we've got George! Mind you, how many festivals can say they had George as a floor singer, I wonder? We can - and our club was a venue for one of his CD launches (Ordinary Heroes - North West launch).

Your turn will come round again, though!

What a fantastic day's entertainment!

We started with a singaround (we had 15 singers/players in attendance!), followed by two sets from the living legend Hughie Jones, who was nursing a cold. He treated us to songs and anecdotes, both from the Spinners' days and from recent times, and we look forward to his next visit to the club.

After the meal break we continued the singaround, followed two sets from our good friend and Mudcatter George P. It's so amazing to consider that English is not George's native tongue, yet he manages to write such insightful and clever lyrics. According to George it's an advantage, as he feels we take our Mother Tongue for granted - his song about the 'Underdog' is an example he cites!

During the break between George's two spots Alio and I recorded an interview with him which is being included on Sounds of Folk on Oldham Community Radio this evening between 7.00pm and 8.00pm. If you're in the area we're on 99.7fm, or you can catch us online; the programme is repeated on Friday, also from 7.00pm. Unfortunately Oldham Community Radio doesn't yet have a 'Listen Again' feature.

We'd managed to include everyone 'as wanted' in the singarounds so far, so it was time for a second bite of the cherry. We decided to save Angelcynn's second spot for later, sandwiched between two truly atmospheric sets from Trio Threlfall.

Angelcynn (pronounced 'angle kin', and meaning 'English Folk') are Rex and Patrick Waldron; Patrick only took up the melodeon a couple of years ago at the tender age of 9, and is already playing to a professional standard which must be heard to be believed.

Well, if you weren't there you missed a 'reet gradely treat'... make sure you don't miss out on March 9th next year!
