Just a word for any expat. Brits out there who may not have heard today's news - BBC Presenter Jill Dando was murdered outside her home just after midday today. She was shot in the head by an assailant who hasn't yet been found. So far the motive isn't known - though God knows who would have a motive to kill someone like her. The BBC have part of their website devoted to her, including a tribute section, if you'd like to add your thoughts. The website address is :

BBC

Sometimes I think we live in a bad world.....

I was utterly shocked when I saw this on the news this evening... even sicker when I think of what will happen to whoever did this... 10 years in prison max... sorry to revert to French.. but hang the bastard..

I am absolutely stunned! I have been away from news broadcasts all day, and this posting was the first I heard of this. I met Ms Dando at the Jazz Cafe in London in December 1997. She was witty, intelligent, and a pleasure to talk with. Sincerest condolences to all who held her dear.

Dont stand by my grave and weep For I'm not there, I do not sleep I am a thousand winds that blow I am the diamond glint on snow I am the sunlight on ripened grain I am the gentle autumn's rain When you awaken in morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circle flight I am the stars that shine at night do not stand at my grave and cry I am not there, I did not die.

Mick Lowe - I can't agree with you on the death penalty. For one thing, mistakes can and have been made by courts. I think Ewan MacColl's "Ballad of Tim Evans" is in the database.

I agree that mistakes are made... but if the deterent is there hopefully it will it will deter people from executing the deed in the first place. And by all accounts this was an "execution" by a hired hitman. Anyone so callous as to cold bloodedly order the death of someone else, in my book forfeits the right to continue living.
Sorry to get heavy about this in what is the totally wrong environment..Hopefully someone will write a song about Jill
Mick
