Hello All, First post:

I've found mudcat an invaluable resource when indulging my casual interest in folk music, but I am now attempting to link it to my studies at university. To this end I've been trying to get hold of a electronic copy of Percy's Reliques online, does such a thing exist?

Can't find one. Found a copy for over $800.
Talk to your university people; It would be a good project for someone there to undertake.
Over 1300 pages.

If I have found the right book, at least some of the pages are available as images (maybe all; I didn't have time to check!), though you have to leaf through them a spread at a time, here:

There are links to all 3 volumes of the book. After downloading all three of the PDFs, you will have access to all of the text. DON'T download the TXT versions, as they used OCRs of the PDF. Those TXT files are NOT very reliable as I've found over the past few months.

Thank you for all of your prompt replies; that's exactly what I was looking for. I'd tried to search for it (clearly particularly ineptly) before posting and had resigned myself to trying my luck at the British Library tomorrow, but you've saved me rather a lot of trouble.

While I don't disagree with George's comment about the quality of the text versions, I always download
those also where they're available so that I can drag out any song or notes that I particularly want,
which is hard to do with a PDF, I then refer to the PDF to check the accuracy of the text.

I was hoping for perfect TXT files, but that didn't happen either at Google Books or at archive.org. Still the OCR's are pretty good - if I were going to post a song from Percy's Reliques in the Forum, I think I'd copy-paste the OCR text, and then use the image scan as a reference for correcting the OCR - more or less what I do now with other OCR scans.
I posted an OCR text from a CD booklet last night - I think it might have been quicker to type the whole thing, rather than correcting OCR errors.

That's why I post the caveat about the OCR scans. You can use them, but don't take them as gospel without going through it thoroughly. I'm sure the people either at Google or archive.org would appreciate the corrections. When they get around to making those corrections....

Joe, that's why I usually just type it in. Takes more time to review, make corrections then review for any other errors.
