Subject: Lyr Req: Lancashire Joe - song lyrics UK
From: GUEST,Penny Black

Hi - anyone help?

We were playing at a pub the other night and someone requested a song his Mum and Dad used to sing to him when he was a lad (some 40-50 years ago!).
We've never heard of it and a search of the net has proved useless.

Has anyone any idea? Knows the song or maybe a bit of the chorus/verse that might help with the search?

cheers

Google Book Search tells me that LANCASHIRE JOE is listed in "Folk Song Index: A Comprehensive Guide to the Florence E. Brunnings Collection" which you might find in a library.

I collected a few song snippets many years ago in South Devon from an elderly Lancashire Woman. One was 'Lancashire Joe' of which the words she could give me were confined to

Now I am a lad and I'll have yous to know,
I were brought up in Owdham, called Lancashire Joe,
I were always well-dressed and such a nice lad
All t folks round about said I favvored me dad.

I also have the tune. Ask me if you want it
