Subject: Lyr Req: Unknown folk song
From: GUEST,Adham
Date: 02 Nov 07 - 09:38 AM

I don't know if I have put this in the right section, but I am looking for a song which my grandad used to have a tape of and play me when I was younger.

The song I am looking for was on a tape which included the songs "The Hartlepool Monkey", "In the Bar Room" and "The Sick Note (Why Paddy's Not At Work Today".

I cannot remember the name of the song, but it was basically a story in song, about a party going on in somebody's living room, a piano playing, all of them singing along getting steadily more drunk. At one stage someone is sent to fetch more beer by breaking in the back of a nearby pub.

I understand that this is a bit of a long shot, but I have been looking for this song for quite a while and am still unable to find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Adham

This song may be They Don't Write 'Em Like That Any More, sung by Vin Garbutt, the last track on his Topic album, Tossin' A Wobbler, now sadly unavailable and Topic tell me they have no plans to re-release it. The name of the writer escapes me and I can't look it up at the mo. Will post later if you think this is the song, unless someone beats me to it.

Just remembered: it was Pete Betts.

Is it the sort of thing I might be able to purchase on iTunes?

Cheers, Ad

Adham.
Sign up with Mudcat and PM me, and I'll arrange to get you the words and the tune if you need it. (I sing the song in private, never had cause to sing it in public.). Not going to post my e mail address for all the internet to see and start spamming me.

Regards

Irene

See words in DT: THEY DON'T WRITE THEM LIKE THAT ANY MORE

Also the threads:

Chord Req:They don't write them like that any more
Lyr Req: they don't write them like that any more
Original: They don't write em like That anymore

(The author Pete Betts contributed to some posts, including the words as he originally wrote them).

Mick

Yep it is here as Mick says

Betsy a regular contributor to mudcat and still a great mate of Vin Garbutt

He I believe had his song updated to what he had written sung and copyrighted and was somewhat miffed at the time

Ray
