Looks like I will be visiting my daughter in Boston Mass. next April. I'm very interested in meeting folks and also perhaps doing some gigs/playing. Don't know if anyone would be interested in hearing the Fat Bloke sing.

Jim. I see you still haven't got your cookie back.
You need to send an e-mail to Joe Offer and tell him who you are and your Mudcat handle. He says he will sort it out if you do so.
Joe can be reached via a mucat e-mail address - joe followed by @mudcat.org
Quack!
Geoff.

Speak to Barry Finn, and Curmudgeon and Bat Goddess aren't too far away from there either.

There's lots of music at the Press Room in Portsmouth NH, just about an hor's drive north of Boston.

There are mixed song/instrumental trad sessions every Friday from 4:00 to 9:00 PM. and on the third Saturday of the month, shanty/forebitter sessions from 3:30 to 7:30 PM.

PM me when you get your cookie back and I'll send you email address nd phone #.

See you in April - Tom

Jim

Sorry to hijack yout thread but I too will be in The States later in the year - Sept 08. I plan to be in Seattle visiting my Son for about three weeks from the beginning of that month and will probably fly via Vancouver, stopping over for three days or so in that fine city.

I would appreciate notice of any suitable sessions for a guitar/mandolin playing singer in either place.

Roger

Having just returned from a trip there I thoroughly recommend the Portsmouth Press Room shanty sing and Molly Malones afterwards, on the whole we found there wasn't much going on in Boston however there is an Irish Bar near the Union Oyster House that can point you in the right direction, the manager did try and give me the low down but it was our last night. You must go up to the restaurant on 52nd floor of the Prudential Building, stunning views and a three course meal in the Bistro bit for $24 excellent food, real good value for money.

If you are around during mid-week, there is a session in Wakefield MA (just north of the city). I've gone there a couple of times and am planning to become more of a regular now that I've moved south from Portsmouth (which reminds me, I must change my handle).

Anyway, it's an Irish music session at a place called Harrington's. Wednesdays from 8:30 to 11:30-ish. It is a mixed format - tunes and songs - led by Terry Weir. When I've gone, it's been between 5 - 10 players.

If you go earlier in the evening, there is set dancing upstairs as well. The dancing and session overlap a little, and while stomping around is a little distracting early, the dancers always enjoy a pint and listening to the music after they wrap up.

Let me know if that works into your itinerary. I'd love to meet you.

Of course, I'd also see you at the Press Room session in Portsmouth -- that's the cream of the crop in my eyes.

Travel safe,

Peter

McFat, what are the dates that you'll be here, there's plenty going on around the Boston area, depending on what your preferences are. What are your preferences & I'll tyr & see if I can match you to something you'd appricate?

Barry
