I have had problems posting m,y playlist on the blog; on top of that the streaming system only picked up the first hour of the problem. However everything seems OK now.

The first half includes an interview and some live playing by Becky Taylor - a great uillean piper.

It was a result of an early computer error when we started the show - it didn't have a name so was listed under "Folk Music" and when it eventually got a name, the computer (which I understand still has valves and is operated by steam) was confused.

I do believe it is now fixed in that it worked fine this weekend. The archive is only supposed to last one month anyway.

This week's show has an interview with Mike Waterson in the first half lasting 17 minutes. I was quite pleased with that.

There's an archiving mismatch at the moment. The pages which offer playable and downloadable past shows go back as far as 14 December 2007, but the links for December return "not found" errors. The earliest actually downloadable show is the one from 4 January 2008.

Just to let you know the latest blog shows the playlist for last Friday.

This week's show in the first half will be a "Burns Night" Special with the Battlefield Band, Kerfuffle, Hector Gilchrist, Craobh Rua and Mike and Ali Vass doing the Burns songs. The second half will include a couple of interviews around the Folk Train which went from Sheffield - Edale this evening.

I am hoping to get a myspace site to publish the weekly playlist from the radio programme. In the meantime here is the one from December 21st which will be repeated December 28th. There is an interview with Les Seaman and Gerry Bates of Handsworth and Grenoside Sword teams between George Tremain and Sheffield Folk Chorale. There is also a technical issue at that time - caused by a record jumping from its slot. Don't ask.........

Next week's show - the last before Xmas will have an interview with both Grenoside and Handsworth Sword teams as they prepare for their annual Boxing Day performances.

Hi everyone,

It looks as though my problems with getting the radio station on line have been solved thanks to Ben and his skills.

It seems that the problem was the title "Thank Goodness It's Folk" since the machine does not do apostrophes. (We have a furniture shop locally that is similarly challenged by the English language - it has a slogan "This Weeks Managers Special Offer" - without any apostrophes).

But I digress.

That has now been sorted and certainly last week's show is now on-line.

At the beginning is the Station Identity which has a lot of foreign languages - which goes on for a while - please be patient after that it gets better - I think!!

I'll be putting the playlist on soon. The latest edition includes a special feature on Christy Moore, Breabach, Young Coppers, Sam Larner, Billy Pigg, Will Noble, Craig Morgan Robson, Flook, Bella Hardy, Julian Longden, Stocai, Pete Coe, Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas, etc. etc. etc....

To get the show as a podcast - www.sheffieldlive.org then> Schedule > then "Thanks Goodness It's Folk" down the bottom on the right hand side.

I would be really grateful if people would be kind enough to email ben@sheffieldlive and ask why the show is not more easily accessible i.e. listed along with the rest of the podcasts.

I have Sam Larner (and Will Noble) this Friday, and I have Century of Song to take some tracks from. The problem is not that I don't want to play them - indeed I got a severe telling off from Sam Lee at the AFO conference, because I had only played that bit so far:-). I don't lack courage to play traditional singers - but I do lack CD's of traditional singers!!

And "Chris in Walkley" - my regular listener - will be mentioned in this week's show. I think he was genuinely mistaken - rather than deliberately misleading.

But I have to contradict you about the mistakes being endearing - not in the studio they aren't. But at least people know it is live!!

Finally managed to hear both halves (thanks for the URL editing info, Anahata).

Keep up the good work, Dave; and do try to work in the occasional recording from traditional as well as revival singers. Meat too strong for the average listener, perhaps, but they may get a taste for it if it's slipped in discreetly.

I also liked the mistakes; these are curiously endearing and should be retained as a feature. 'Chris in Walkley' misled you about that Pentangle song, though. It wasn't anything at all to do with 'The Liverbirds', but was the sig. tune for 'Take Three Girls'.
