Subject: Shanty crew - 1 year On From: GUEST,spb-cooperator Date: 21 Nov 07 - 11:42 AM Looking at the calendar, I notice a year has passed since I retired from shantying, and I am curious to find out what news there is about either or both of the Shanty Crews in the past year, and also how everyone else is getting on in the maritime circuit. Regards Steve |

Subject: RE: Shanty crew - 1 year On From: GUEST,spb-cooperator Date: 21 Nov 07 - 06:41 PM Looking at the thread, I'm aware of the politics around Lancaster (for several years)....and also of various intention(s) to take on responsibilty for the event. I've got views on this but as I am ourside the circuit now it would only be speculatory anyway. Bur.... Lancaster was something special and a world-class event. Anyway.... part of the upshot from my retirement is I miss having a creative side to my life, but I do not miss the tensions of being part of a group, so my feelings are a mixture of relief and vacuum. Subject: RE: Shanty crew - 1 year On From: Charley Noble Date: 22 Nov 07 - 12:16 PM Steve- "I do not miss the tensions of being part of a group" Those are the risks of being involved with others in creative work. It's always sad when they overshadow the joy that's also produced. But sometimes you just have to walk away! I do hope that you are able to continue singing as a solo, or with one or two others of like mind. I do solo work as well as perform with a group, which permits me to experiment with more songs than I can introduce to the group. Cheerily, Charley Noble Roll & Go |

Subject: RE: Shanty crew - 1 year On From: Herga Kitty Date: 22 Nov 07 - 03:23 PM Hi Steve - I'm not on the maritime circuit, but am interested to hear what's been happening to the Shanty Crews. 2 of the Keelers have retired from their day jobs (Pete and Jim) so are available for solo bookings.... Subject: RE: Shanty crew - 1 year On From: GUEST,spb-cooperator Date: 09 Dec 07 - 03:38 PM Thanks for the encouragement. I like the idea of working up something a bit more eclectic in the new year, but I'm not sure what. Steve |
