Here's a link to a YouTube video featuring Uncle Earl playing Streak O'Lean, Streak O'Fat...

Check out Kung-Fu Clogging

Below is some background on it...enjoy!!!

Rick Martin writes:

This hilarious and well done video(which includes Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones on piano) is from a friend Matt Olwell

Matt writes:

First, the long awaited music video that my good friends, the Uncle Earl girls made this summer is out! It features yours truly (bald silver head and freaky makeup.) Kung Fu Clogging at it's finest.

You can see it on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCFJ3LURCtc

I think I can honestly say this is one of the weirdest things I have ever done. If enough people watch it, well, you never know what might happen. Maybe they'll put it on MTV and we'll all be famous. (Hey it happens.) Tell your friends!

The video was directed by a guy named Tom Krueger (? Not sure of last name) Crazy guy. Very talented.

The dancers (apart from the g'earls) are Nick Gariess, (the young blond guy in the disco suit), he's from Michigan, and is one of the best dancers I have ever seen. It's been a blast watching him get better and better over the years. Lessee, who else... Emma Leighe Good, Mayreen Berry (in the horrible feis dress), Jason Nious, who is now dancing with Stomp in Las Vegas (and who I know from the days of Footworks collaborations with Step Afrika).

That's the X-Men-esque good guys, the cloggers are all part of a team from Mars Hill college in NC. Led by my dance partner from back in the day, Heidi Kulas (the blond and slightly scary leader of the cloggettes).

Completely and totally fucked beyond belief. Lacks any vestige of redeeming social value, just seriously bad taste in abundance.

I love it!!!! I give it a 9.7......OUTSTANDING!!!

There's a superb video of Uncle Earl on YouTube
It's done like a kung Fu film of a punchup in a restaurant, complete with authentic badly overdubbed speech, and the 'martial art' involved is Appalachian clog dancing. It's very funny and the music (Streak O' Lean, Streak O' Fat - Originally from Seven Foot Dilly and the Dill Pickles) is superb. Rayna Gellert fiddles up a storm supported by the excellent g'Earls. Apparently a dish made of lean meat and a lot of fat was one of Mao's favorite dishes, which is I suppose why the banjo player (Andresson sp?) makes exclamations in Chinese through the tune. Great spotting some of the faces making guest appearences - like John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) on piano, and Casey Driessen (a bluegrass fiddler) in a Chef's hat. I believe the video was made for Uncle Earl's new CD Waterloo Tennessee, which I've just bought after seeing the video - I'm very impressed with it.
Cheers
Ray

That last message from me was the stupid start of a new thread, and has now rightly been incorporated into this one.

Well, thanks, BanjoRay. Because of your post, I decided to take a more careful look at band, as I didn't know about them. Wow! Found a wonderful video of them at Owensboro, KY.

Correction - the banjo player's name is Abigail Washburn. No idea how the other one crept into my brain.
Rayna Gellert came over to England last year to teach OT fiddle at Sore Fingers - what a great five days that was. This year John Paul Jones, who produces the g'Earl's recordings, was in the OT fiddle class - he's really keen.
Cheers
Ray
