Subject: Help with two Irish songs, please From: Norrie (inactive) Date: 04 May 99 - 02:43 PM I am looking for background information and especially accreditation on two songs. One is, I know, a traditional song, however, if anyone knows it's background, I would appreciate the information. That is "I'm Leaving Tipperary" I have also seen it referred to as "Goodbye Mack, Goodbye Pat" and the lyrics appear here in the forum under the title "Goodbye Mick" The other song is one that I know was done by the Makem Brothers and that I assume is relatively newer. It is called "The Return of the Clipper Ships" [Day of the Clipper] Again, any information that anyone has to share would be much appreciated. Thanks. Norrie |
Subject: RE: Help with two Irish songs, please From: Bobby Bob, Ellan Vannin Date: 04 May 99 - 05:19 PM I think 'Leaving Tipperary' was by The Flanagan Brothers, who used to perform in the USA in the 20s or 30s. Their material was released on vinyl a few years ago, so is probably available on CD these days. Shoh slaynt, Bobby Bob |
Subject: RE: Help with two Irish songs, please From: Bobby Bob, Ellan Vannin Date: 05 May 99 - 07:05 PM I was lying in bed this morning, and I realised it wasn't The Flanagan Brothers, it was something along the lines of Dan Sullivan(?) and his Shamrock Band. Do you remember the Peter Sellers recording? That was someone or other (sorry, forgotten that, too) and his Men of Shamrock. The age and the drink have obviously taken their toll of the little grey cells. Lhiats, Bobby Bob

Subject: RE: Help with two Irish songs, please From: Allan C. Date: 07 May 99 - 10:07 AM Norrie, try entering GOODBYE MICK in the search box. The song is there. |
Subject: RE: Help with two Irish songs, please From: Norrie (inactive) Date: 07 May 99 - 07:27 PM Thanks Allan. I know the song is there, but it is not accredited. The accreditation information is what I was looking for. Or, the history. The lyrics, I've already got. Norrie |
