I thought I'd start a new thread off!

This must be one of the best clubs in London see FolkMob It's certainly the best value for money as they only charge £2 on most guest nights the norm in the area is £4 or £5. You can enjoy an intimate singaround with a really friendly bunch of people or on alternate weeks you can get to play on stage with full PA and lighting. You can be sure that you will sound good as they have an experienced sound engineer monitoring and mixing throughout! On top of all this they even provide peanuts and biscuits on the tables!

Looks good. Alas, Multimap tells me:

total distance: 50.44 miles (81.18 km)
est. duration: 1 hour(s), 9 minute(s)

so it's rather unlikely I'll be a regular!!

Good luck!

Considering that when I joined Folkmob 4years ago I wouldnt sing play or go near the stage, let alone stay sober on club nights,With a little friendly encouragement from other members I have slowly over the years blosomed into a confident no thrills guitar player who likes nothing more then getting up there on stage and throughly although still somewhat nervously having a blooldy good 5 mins on PA stage nights.
At the end of the day if you can only play Three Blind Mice on one string you will feel better afterwards because Folkmob has one thing thats outstanding and important " Folkmob has a
very friendly sympathetic crowd of members. To hear a roar of hoots cheers and welldones coming from all directions is one thing. What its done for MY confidence is unbeleiveable.(AINT DONE NOUGHT FOR ME SPELLING THOUGH) I have also learned that one can have a drink and play which is great. But to be drunk and play one will never master.

Thanks for the comments Pete. Look forward to hearing more of you in 2008. As Woodsie mentions, we sometimes have guest nights as well. On February 13th we have one of the finest singer songwriters around - Don Mescall. He recently wrote the song that Kate Rusby performed with Ronan Keating 'All over again'. Check him out on myspace http://www.myspace.com/donmescall.

Dave.

Folkmob at the Tudor barn is indeed a very special club who's members enjoy performing and listening to all types of music, so whatever is your particular 'thing'is, it will always be well recieved.

The venue is quite amazing - a genuine 16th century barn set in the grounds of a lovely park, and it has a licensed bar!! (get there soon before someone realises what they have there and decides to turn it into a Bernie Inn)!

From a performers point of view the set-up is really good with candlelit tables set around a low stage so that you're always in touch with the audience and as for the PA, Andy the soundman is a true professional who always manages to make you sound great whilst maintaining the natural accoustic feel plus he doesn't fiddle with the knobs during songs!!

(hope that's enough to get us another booking next year)

Tony Petty (Capella)

Capella, Derek Brimstone, Blues Abuse, Suntrap, Julie Ellison, Liz Simcock, Joe Bazouki, Alec Gorham and many more folk luminaries have performed at this club in recent times. Some of the floor spots are truly amazing, especially Jim Radford who at nearly 80 years old has a repetoire of about 400 songs all to memory!!!

I speakfor meself re What I have said above. No one else. I certainly have benifited from Folkmob.

I have also visited folk clubs where the small repeatitive little rude click, with there heads stuck up there arses are not worth bothering about.

Thanks for that above Goatman.

You could bring your Herd of Goats to the Tudor Barn? Im sure Ron the landlord would be most accomodating?
You could do that song from! The Sound of Music.
"High on a hill stood a lonely Goatherd. Bill G can do the yoodleing on the chorus?

Never been to Folkmob but have been to other gigs at the Tudor Barn. What all organisers forget to push is that it is just so easy to get to with dual carriageway from the M25 and M11/A12 to within a few hundred yards of the venue.

Is Eltham a neighborhood of London? Excuse the question because I live in the United States - specifically Texas. Where is Eltham in relation to Belgravia London?

Post - Top - Home - Printer Friendly - Translate

Subject: RE: Folkmob Club in Eltham, London
From: Cap n' Ella

Hi Wesley S, Eltham is in South East london and south of the Thames River - Belgravia is in West London (North of the Thames) the two are probably only 20 miles apart but if you're driving it's not the easiest of journeys and you should expect to be held up in heavy traffic for most of the journey! probably best to take public transport.

PS: if you're coming straight from Texas best make an early start if you want to get a floor spot!

Best Wishes
Tony

On Wednesday 15th October the excellent duo Norcsalordie will be the guest performers at The Tudor Barn. Still only £3.00 admission this represents excellent value for money. Remember to bring your own drink as the Barn is no longer licenced.

Thanks for the mention GF. We always try to give value as our audience means a lot to us - without them we can't pay the bills

Although we play folk music most of our gigs are not to folkies at all but to Joe Public and we get a great buzz from seeing the wide range of people who enjoy our performances

Hope to see you tomorrow
