I am trying to complete a music trivia quiz and am looking for some answers. I realize that this is not a blues or folk quiz, but I have seen how much general music knowledge Mudcatters have and felt that this forum would answer all my questions. Factual information only please.

1. In what city did the Beatles open their first North American Tour?

2. Where and when did the Beatles play their last show?

3. In what year did Elvis Presley play Toronto?

4. What famous guitarist played on the 1967 Tom Jones hit "It's Not Unusual"?

5. Duran Duran got their name from a villian in which movie, The Blob, Every Which Way But Loose, Barbarella or Batman?

6. What Album did Rolling Stone Magazine name #1 Album of the 80's?

7. What are the Real Names of U2's Edge and Bono?

8. Who performed the original Gilligan's Island theme song?

9. What artist who went on to a successful career of his own wrote "Leavin' On a Jet Plane"?

10. What three artists performed verisons of "All For One and One for All" on the Soundtrack to "The Three Musketeers"?

11. Who was the artist and what was the final song performed at the Berlin Wall Concert?

12. Who was the 15 yr old guitarist in The McCoys who went on to a successful Career as both a performer and a producer?

13. Who was the first Canadian rock star to sell 1,000, 000 albums in his home country and what was that album?

I believe that I know the answers to a lot of these questions, but I am seeking confirmation. Put on your thinking caps people, your help is appreciated.

On #8...

It depends on which 'Original' theme song...

Sherwood Schwartz (sp?) the series creator sang the very first version... it's from the really old black and white ones. I think it was in second or later season that the show picked up a band...

I'm frightened that I remember this. I'm going to bed now.

Thanks for your help people. Brakn, I too am guessing at Jimmy Page. Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck were the other two choices in that question, but I believe that they were both too busy with Cream and The Yardbirds. Page on the other hand was doing a ton of studio work at the time. John Osh, I believe that you too are right. Sean M, how the heck could you know that?

Thanks again people. Anyone care to answer the other questions?

Steve

It was an interview that I read years ago... probably came out of some fan book that I was reading while bored at a bookstore I used to work at. As I said, I'm not entirely positive, but I'm fairly certain.

Dear Steve,
The first question is a trick question. The Beatles came first to New York to appear on Ed Sullivan's TV show, but their first concert was in Washington (I am pretty sure) as a warm-up to the Carnegie Hall concert. This may be different from the official "North American Tours" that came later. I am doing this from my memory -- I knew about the Beatles from my mum who had been in England in 1963, so when they were going to arrive in the US I was primed. I followed them around by radio for the next 3 weeks, until my school principal (may be burn eternally) confiscated my radio (and during recess!). I am sure that the first live concert was in Washington.
Peter T.
