Subject: Origins: Fairport Convention's release date From: GUEST,Cyril Date: 02 Jan 08 - 03:39 PM Hi ! Is it my imagination or the Fairport Convention's original date of release has been lost by time ? I've checked in every books, every web pages and I've never read more than "June 1968" as a release date for the debut album. Do you have more informations ? Regards |

Subject: RE: Origins: Fairport Convention's release date From: GUEST,Cyril Date: 02 Jan 08 - 04:33 PM Thank you These are informations I've already in possession thanks to the album re-release booklet but even by searching in the Polydor catalogue, it's very hard to find the actual day of release. Moreover, it didn't appear in the top 30 lists of that time, so there is no printed document to help me... |
Subject: RE: Origins: Fairport Convention's release date From: GUEST,Judy Dyble Date: 02 Jan 08 - 05:30 PM From a press cutting in Kingsley Abbott's book Fairportfolio, the release date would appear to be 21st June 1968, even though it is put at being the 11th July on the Milestones Calender on the Fairport Website. I'd go for the 21st June which I would think is the correct one.....but then it was an awfully long time ago (grin!) |
Subject: RE: Origins: Fairport Convention's release date From: Lonesome EJ Date: 02 Jan 08 - 06:18 PM Thanks, Judy. A pleasure and honor to have you visit the Mudcat! |
Subject: RE: Origins: Fairport Convention's release date From: GUEST,Judy Dyble Date: 03 Jan 08 - 11:10 AM Aww blush, shuffle shuffle. But remember I could be wrong because I had left the band by the time it was released.. |
Subject: RE: Origins: Fairport Convention's release date From: GUEST,Neil D Date: 03 Jan 08 - 11:30 AM Ditto what EJ said! |
Subject: RE: Origins: Fairport Convention's release date From: Mo the caller Date: 03 Jan 08 - 11:35 AM What were they in for? |
Subject: RE: Origins: Fairport Convention's release date From: GUEST,Cyril Date: 03 Jan 08 - 12:25 PM Thank you so much Judy, it's a real pleasure to be helped in my request by someone involved in FC and a great honour as well. I read once again Joe Boyd's book without finding a clue... It's strange that there are no press adverts available, I can be wrong but was the album expected by the whole underground scene of that time ? |
Subject: RE: Origins: Fairport Convention's release date From: GUEST,Lindsay In Wales!!!! Date: 03 Jan 08 - 03:24 PM Hi Jude it's me, Lindsay, you remember, our kids went to playschool together and I used to play accordion for Bucknell Morris. Hope you are well...did you eventually move from Launton...? |
Subject: RE: Origins: Fairport Convention's release date From: GUEST,Judy Dyble Date: 03 Jan 08 - 03:30 PM Yes it was expected, but because the line had undergone quite a big basic change, I suspect that it wasn't promoted as much as it might have been and the release date was forgotten in the muddle. But I don't honestly know because I wasn't part of the band by then |
Subject: RE: Origins: Fairport Convention's release date From: GUEST,Cyril Date: 03 Jan 08 - 04:28 PM Oh yes, you were writing adverts for the NME ! |
Subject: RE: Origins: Fairport Convention's release date From: GUEST,Judy Dyble Date: 03 Jan 08 - 04:53 PM Was I? Ah you may mean advertising for musicians and finding the beginnings of King Crimson perhaps? That was via an advertisement in Melody Maker... |
Subject: RE: Origins: Fairport Convention's release date From: Lonesome EJ Date: 03 Jan 08 - 06:00 PM Judy, just wondering if the story's true that you used to knit sweaters for Richard and Simon while on stage? |
Subject: RE: Origins: Fairport Convention's release date From: GUEST,Lindsay In Wales Date: 03 Jan 08 - 06:29 PM on the back of THAT album the sleeve notes tell us that Judy used to knit on stage when not required to sing.....but I don't think the garment was ever specified.... |
Subject: RE: Origins: Fairport Convention's release date From: GUEST,Judy Dyble Date: 04 Jan 08 - 03:24 AM Ah..knitting. I was the worst knitter ever. Still am. it's the tension thing, I can't do it. If I ever knitted sweaters for Simon and Richard they would have been unwearable. A floorcloth shaped like the Eiffel Tower. That's what I was knitting. And it was supposed to be a scarf. (My secret is now out...) |
