Subject: RE: Music Festival at Irelands Highest Pub From: PoppaGator Date: 04 Jan 08 - 04:45 PM I'm no expert on the land of my ancestors (having visited but once, for a total of one week, in August '03), but I know of, and have been to, another establishment claiming to be "Ireland's Highest Pub": Johnny Fox's in the mountains just south of Dublin. |
Subject: RE: Music Festival at Irelands Highest Pub From: Emma B Date: 04 Jan 08 - 04:52 PM Well I've been to 'TOP OF COOM' and it's a wonderful unspoilt pub. John and Marie are charming folks and muscians and the 'the Ceol and craic' really are brilliant! It would be lovely to see you all again. |
Subject: RE: Music Festival at Irelands Highest Pub From: The Sandman Date: 04 Jan 08 - 05:17 PM POOPPAGATOR,we here in IRELAND,know which is the highest pub in Ireland ,because we have cunning plan ,its called ordnance survey map.the highest pub is Top of Coom . JOHNYY FOXS is in fact the third highest if you include Ulster,AS part of Ireland, Johnny Foxs now say reputed to be the highest. well I am afraid Johnny Foxs is not as high as Top of Coom. |
Subject: RE: Music Festival at Irelands Highest Pub From: PoppaGator Date: 04 Jan 08 - 05:32 PM Thanks for the clarification, Cap'n. I have no axe to grind here; although I've visited Fox's (and enjoyed my salmon dinner) and not Top of Coom, I have no reason to favor one over the other ~ certainly not in denial of objective geographic data! Just out of curiosity, where's the mountaintop pub in Ulster? |

Subject: RE: Music Festival at Irelands Highest Pub From: Brendy Date: 04 Jan 08 - 07:10 PM And those of us who are Irish, Dick, include Ulster as part of Ireland. It had 9 counties last time I counted. Yes, Johnny Fox's is the 3rd highest in Ireland. B. |
Subject: RE: Music Festival at Irelands Highest Pub From: Jim Carroll Date: 05 Jan 08 - 03:31 AM I was told that the highest pub in Ireland was in Limerick - something to do with white powder! Jim Carroll |
Subject: RE: Music Festival at Irelands Highest Pub From: GUEST,freespiritceol Date: 05 Jan 08 - 07:38 AM Hi Sorry to be so controversial but the top of Coom Is definately the highest pub, not that it really matters, it's just our local and a great place to play music in. At last years 'Music in the mountains' We had a first for the place with a marquee set up outside as the pub was full to capacity. Just for the record Top of Coom 1,033 feet Ponderosa 947 feet Johnny Foxes 910 feet In our opinion the guinness at Top Of Coom is the best we have tasted anywhere, perhaps it's the altitude? Come over for the music in October and try for yourselves! All the Best John & Marie |
