Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: Hamish Date: 07 Jan 08 - 10:45 AM Hey! Gerry! You take care now. Last time I saw a gig of yours somebody felt they had to evacuate the building by setting off the fire alarm. I mean, your guitar was smokin', but I suspect an ulterior motive... |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: GerryMc Date: 07 Jan 08 - 11:55 AM Hamish I need a plan 'B'. Outdoor gig? guitars with built in fire extinguishers? I know, let's have a smoking ban in public buidings. Doh! Gerry ;-) |

Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: dozy rozy Date: 08 Jan 08 - 03:54 AM Mr. Padgett. You won a prize for your valiant efforts on the dancefloor with me.How is the pearson? And it wasn't your shins you were worried about, if I recall correctly. |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: Tyke Date: 08 Jan 08 - 09:17 AM Mmmm perhaps Ray won't need me to point him in the right derection back to his tent this year? |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: r.padgett Date: 08 Jan 08 - 12:48 PM You led me astray on the canal side George!! Dozy ~ Pearson is doing fine thank you, Spot prize awarded by Jimmy McDonald who could not believe his eyes at the strange "dance" concocted by Dozy Rozy which involved body clashes full frontal [I still have the bruises to confirm it, together with the wrist dislocations] Steer clear of mad Dozy unless you want a Spot prize ps She's ok really!! |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: Dame Pattie Smith EPNS Date: 09 Jan 08 - 10:20 AM I expect Splotty and myself will be doing a spoons workshop again. We had a fabulous time last year. Holmfirth is brill! |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: r.padgett Date: 09 Jan 08 - 11:04 AM Spoons workshop on Sunday am was a great out door event outside of Sid's cafe by the Church must have had 30+ participants 2007 Hope to see it again Patti and Ned! Ray |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: Tyke Date: 09 Jan 08 - 04:38 PM As I thought Ray Pagets plans to be doing some spooning with dozy rosey again at Holfirth. |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: Splott Man Date: 10 Jan 08 - 04:09 AM We counted about 100 participants and observers at the spoons workshop. We carry about 40 pairs with us, and the café supplied us with dozens more. When we arrived to set up, we realised the café itself would be too small for even a few, so we talked to the manager and she agreed that outside would be OK. There were quite a few factors conspiring against us that morning. The weather was iffy, with rain threatening. Then with about 10 minutes to go, the church next door started it's Sunday morning peal of bells. The café manager immediately marched over to the church and into the side door - we hoped she wasn't going to tell them to shut up on our account. A couple of minutes later, she and a church warden struggled out with piles of stacking chairs for us. It was a great atmosphere all round. I bought a Hawaiian shirt in the market too. r.padgett, Tyke, dozy rozy et al, why don't you come and introduce yourselves this year? We always enjoy meeting fellow 'catters. Splott Man |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: Tyke Date: 10 Jan 08 - 08:00 PM Well Splott Man dozy rozy is a very shy young girl who blushes very easily. Ray Pagett is also a quiet man who keeps himself very much to himself. You will often see them at festivals just blending into the back ground quietly. However if you visit the Holmfirth Festival Website you will find Ray Padgett Photograph. Ray and his friends from Barnsley are usually put in charge of sitting about singing and playing various instruments in a tuneful enthusiastic manner whilst sampling different Beers wines and spirits. At the unfixed but appointed hour they then do a re enactment of an Ancient Barnsley Tradition of walking into Kebab Shops and putting on impromptu concerts. As part of this Tradition equally enthusiastic owners and staff in the Holmfirth Kebab shops then throw free food at them to mark the end of each song. Once the concerts are over The Barnsley Lads at great expense hold a Wibberly Wobberley Walking Workshop. Any female who attends the Wibberley Wobberley Walking Workshop is traditional invited to join the Wibberly Wobberley Walking Parade to the Campsite in the early hours of the morning. When the Parade reaches the Campsite any females who have completed the walk are traditionally asked if they would like to try a Barnsley Chop. |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: Splott Man Date: 11 Jan 08 - 03:50 AM We have a similar Wibberly Wobberley Walking Parade tradition in south Wales. Some say it travelled here with the Irish during the industrial revolution, others say that it was always here but as a more individual pirsuit. The temperance movement, and the non-comformist churches tried their best to put a stop to it but there's been a recent revival, particularly in urban areas. The best time to observe it is between 2 and 4 in the morning in Cardiff in Caroline Street (or Chippie Alley as it has become known) and the surrounding area. It's good to see the youth of the day keeping up our honourable traditions. |

Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: Tyke Date: 09 Mar 08 - 04:15 PM I think Cath has started a new Holmfirth thread Here! |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: Cath Date: 10 Mar 08 - 07:21 AM Yes chaps - I guess I should have checked first but I didn't. |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: Cath Date: 11 Mar 08 - 07:29 AM Just realised how I came to miss this discussion - I was out of the country from January 5th - 20th so I wasn't logging on! |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: Ned Ludd Date: 11 Mar 08 - 07:20 PM Oi! I am Nedd Ludd and yes we've met Padgett! Dunno who Splott man is though! |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: Ned Ludd Date: 11 Mar 08 - 07:29 PM No fivers but I might buy you a pint if you catch me drunk enough! |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: Splott Man Date: 12 Mar 08 - 07:04 AM I'm the other Ned, always have been. |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: GUEST,Guest Date: 12 Mar 08 - 07:26 AM It's a pity that there is not enough room to accomodate the towing vehicle alogside it's caravan. Perhaps there will not be as many people wishing to use the campsite after all because of this regulation, this year? |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: Tyke Date: 12 Mar 08 - 10:31 AM I'm sorry that the Festival Campsite is not as large as it might be too. I'm also so sorry that the necessary parking of you towing vehicle off the Campsite seems to have spoilt your Festival. However you may not have noticed but the facility of parking you Caravan and Towing vehicle together was available on the land a joining the Secure Campsite. This area owned by Kirkleas and has also has Electric Hook ups for campers. You will also find a couple of privately own and run Campsites in the Holme Valley. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the volunteer campsite stewards who did an exhalent unpaid job keeping the Holmfirth Festival of Folk Campsite safe and secure. I would also like to thank the committee for the provision of a secure locked car park for the Vehicle that was unable to be accommodated on the campsite. Lastly I sure Guest will agree with me that last years concert in the Civic by Chumbawamba's and all the other Festival Artist did make up for any slight inconvenience caused on Holmfirth Festival of Folk's Safe and Secure Campsite. |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: r.padgett Date: 12 Mar 08 - 11:17 AM Yes sorry for my confusion Dave Ellis and Ned Clamp I do know the difference! Ray |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: Cath Date: 12 Mar 08 - 11:31 AM I'm not sure what Guest Guest's problem is. Last year vehicles were asked to leave the camping field in order to make space for tents and caravans. It doesn't seem unreasonable to me to ask this as it allows more space for people to stay. If the camping field became a car park then it would surely defeat the object. If Guest Guest has a particular problem can I suggest he/she should contact the festival organisers to see if it can be solved. |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: Tyke Date: 12 Mar 08 - 12:40 PM Didn't Holmfirth Festival of Folk have a feedback form Cath? So that all the great things about Holmfirth's Festival could me expanded, whilst sorting out and minimising were possible any perceived problems. Mind you I don't do form filling myself, if I can help it, that said I have always found the Stewards and organizers to be very helpful. Well done to everyone I say for keeping this Festival very much alive and kicking. |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: Cath Date: 13 Mar 08 - 09:29 AM You are, as always, right Tyke! We did have a feedback form and I can't remember that having to move your vehicle came out as a particular problem. It is a matter that was discussed at length within the committee and the decision was, that on the whole, it was better for the campers to have vehicles off the site to allow more camping space. What more can you do? |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: Tyke Date: 13 Mar 08 - 10:40 AM Oh I have to correct you their Cath I'm not always right! I remember one time I thought I was wrong and I wasn't I was right all the time! So there you go! ;-) |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: Splott Man Date: 14 Mar 08 - 04:33 AM So you were wrong about that then. |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: GUEST,Ned at work Date: 14 Mar 08 - 11:52 AM I seem to remember that tykes vehicle moving on it's own could be a problem! |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: Tyke Date: 14 Mar 08 - 12:02 PM Yes anyone want to buy a 1972 VW Bright Yellow Campervan with California Dreaming writen down the side. It's in need lots of TLC and comes with it's own Surf Board. It had an argument with a White Van Man in 1999 so it's been poorly since then. I will have to get my finger out and find a renovator for it and it's all original Westvailia interior. |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: Ned Ludd Date: 15 Mar 08 - 09:40 AM If you make me an offer Tyke, I might take it.... |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: Tyke Date: 15 Mar 08 - 10:32 AM You do realize that my VW Camper is a distant relative of Herbie! Hence its deciding to set off on it's own out of the Wheel Car Park! Dream Here no Road Tax £150 Fully Com Insurance and lot's of attention |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth? From: Tyke Date: 15 Mar 08 - 12:48 PM More VW Music You should not have got me started on this Ned |
