Fine weekend of folk music at the Owl, Rodley, Leeds this weekend.

First up, on Friday 11 Jan, Roger Davies, the excellent singer-songwriter from Brighouse will be playing a solo show. If you're up for some keen, wry observations of Northern life, with strong meoldies and an infectious stage presence, then Roger is your man. He's becoming increasingly popular and rightly so!

Then on Saturday 12 Jan, the pride of the Dales, Keepers Fold will be performing. Iain and Jeff sing and play (mostly) traditional songs with serious welly. They know thousands of songs and always have that Cheshire Cat effect on their audiences.

Both shows will kick off at 8:30pm or thereabouts and are highly recommended. There's no entry fee.

Diolch

Wayne

Roger Davies is the bee's knees! I haven't seen an English songwriter who's excited me more for more years than I care to remember. He sings in English, is rooted in his own culture and is a consummate performer and player of the guitar and harmonica. He also knows how to present his songs to an audience with gentle humour.
I've had to pull out of a date at Birdsedge Village Hall near Huddersfield on feb 23rd and Roger has been booked as replacement. I would urge all those of you able to get to see him to take the opportunity. For tickets contact Jacey Bedford (Artisan)01484 606230
It's very difficult for fine young talent to get an audience these days. It was easy for my generation, there were more gigs when I started than people to play them.I feel very strongly that special talent should be encouraged and in this time of so many navel contemplating would be songwriters a Roger Davies is more precious than gold.

Hi everyone - first post here prompted by Harvey's praise of Roger Davies - just want to add my own.

I first saw Roger doing a floor spot at The Topic in Bradford and I was mightily impressed. I subsequently reviewed his spot and his two CD's for Tykes News and then saw him doing a shared evening at the Topic which confirmed my initial imressions. As Harvey says he is a great songwriter and performer and well worth going out of your way for. I've recently recommended Roger (amongst others) to a newcomer to folk and he chose Roger as the star of a very illustrious bunch!

I'll be there tonight and look forward to seeing anyone else who makes it.
