Subject: RE: Bude Folk Festival 2008 From: Herga Kitty Date: 16 Jan 08 - 04:12 PM Last year it was the late May bank holiday weekend (clashing with Chippenham, Chester, Cleethorpes festivals...). I remember because I was in Chippenham, and missed the Shiny Bums in Bude! Kitty |

Subject: RE: Bude Folk Festival 2008 planning mtg 21st Jan From: BretonCap Date: 16 Jan 08 - 05:35 PM Sorry Lucy can't make Bude if it's going to be the late May Holiday weekend again. I'm planning to be at Chippenham again. Dave |
Subject: RE: Bude Folk Festival 2008 planning mtg 21st Jan From: Hawker Date: 16 Jan 08 - 07:11 PM It Looks like the late May Bank Holiday, this year, though I have tried to get the rest of the committee to see sense and look at other dates, It does seem though that whenever you organise a festival there will be one that clashes with it somewhere! Also Historically there used to be a Whitsuntide fair at Bude, so it is a sort of revival of a past tradition. Cheers, Lucy |

Subject: RE: Bude Folk Festival 2008 planning mtg 21st Jan From: Canberra Chris Date: 17 Jan 08 - 08:11 AM Well how about that, the Shiny Bum Singers were discussing the very same matter here in Canberra on Tuesday night, in company with fellow Budists Andrew McKay and Carole Etherton who left my place this morning on the way back to Sydney. We even had the festival poster out, which is a happy souvenir of a great time. The Bums won't be able to make it over again this year, but keep a spot warm for us in the land of legend - fond memories of the Falcon and the Tree Inn, the great welcome, and putting a face to so many Mudcatter names. Like General MacArthur, we will return. Love you all, and happy to give feedback, though I can't think offhand of anything we would have improved, except our schedule which had us hacking across to Rochester for another magic session on the Sunday. Was there ever a better weekend? Calling all Mudcatters - this is a great little festival, be there. Geordie-Peorgie sorry to miss you too! Love your messages. If we can help from here, let us know. Chris |
Subject: RE: Bude Folk Festival 2008 planning mtg 21st Jan From: GUEST,Les Sullivan Date: 17 Jan 08 - 08:55 AM I am more than happy to support your festival as an artist having heard good things about it from Carole and Andy. If you are unfamiliar with the name check out MySpace http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=150905389 which includes my email. I have heard my songs are very popular in your part of the world and sung by quite a few people. |
Subject: RE: Bude Folk Festival 2008 planning mtg 21st Jan From: Singing Referee Date: 17 Jan 08 - 09:02 AM I can second Les's nomination of himself. Great songs, great voice, excellently performed. Well worth a spot at any festival! His songs are often mis-credited as traditional, e.g. Jutland And I believe he's moving down to Dorset, so almost local! ;0) |
Subject: RE: Bude Folk Festival 2008 planning mtg 21st Jan From: George Papavgeris Date: 17 Jan 08 - 12:01 PM Yes, grab Les with both hands! You won't regret it, great songwriter! I can't make it myself this time though - booked elsewhere... |

Subject: RE: Bude Folk Festival 2008 planning mtg 21st Jan From: Sue the Borderer Date: 18 Jan 08 - 10:47 AM I'll try & make it to the meeting on Monday night, Lucy. I don't think Exmoor are going to be dancing at Chippenham this year, so I'm toying with the idea of coming to Bude instead - and running Herbaceous Border there (instead of at Chipp) What do you think? Sue |
