The Whitby website is still not showing the artists booked. Can I make a plea to the organisers to do this soon please? Our holidays depend upon it!

Seven months in advance? Try Gloucester CZ festival - they don't publish a guest list until 7 weeks in advance!

I'm surprised that you need to know. It will be 'the usual suspects', mostly traditional performers. And there will be so much to do, specialist interests to perfect, related interests to dabble in that you'll be running up and down the West Cliff all week trying not to be late for the next thing.

Whitby is so different from some weekend festivals that really are just 3 or 4 'big name' concerts + a small fringe.

Trust the organisers that they know what makes a good Whitby week, and will give us one again. Thanks to the bands, callers, workshop leaders etc. etc. who take part for love (and a campsite space or flat for the week)

And, when you find out who's on, I'll look with interest, too.

I booked my flat for this year before last years festival, and my season ticket at the 'bargain price'
So it won't influence me, but I'd like to know what they are doing about dance venues this year, last year the Sports Centre was not a big success.

I'm on!!! My first visit there as a guest performer, having been doing the singarounds and storyrounds since 2003. I know that Stanley Robertson has definitely been booked, Mike Rust, and Tim Ralphs, a young storyteller on his first guest visit just like me. Good that Whitby is taking a mix of seasoned performers plus some who are working their way up.

I can't wait for Whitby!!!!

Diane

The guest list changes little from year to year, if you have last years programme it's a safe bet that 90% (plus)of the artists listed will be on again this year. That's not a criticism just a observation.

I sure hope that it's *at least* 90% (plus) of last year's!

But isn't there a different programmer this year?

I think they are working on the line of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" and who can blame them, Whitby has to be the best festival in the North if not in the whole calendar. (Never been to Sidmouth so can't compare the two)

Sam Lee is also on; he was there last year. He's a fine young singer. I spoke to him on the phone earlier in the week while he was up paying a visit to Stanley. Stanley is mentoring him.

Heard Stanley Robertson singing for the first time at Celtic Connections' "Travellers Day Out" concert last Saturday. A magical experience.

Will seek him out at Whitby :0)

Hi Mr. Happy,

I have the website - there is no guest list.

And I think Ruth is right I do believe the programmer (s) has changed, one of the reasons for posting the question. And I believe one of my favourite sessions has been axed for example and I am trying to verify it.

Hi John

I'll pass on your comments to Stanley - he will be pleased to hear it. I'll be phoning him again fairly soon. Unfortunately I need to go into hospital soon for glaucoma surgery (an afternoon job) but will be keeping in touch with Stanley by phone while I convalesce at home.

Thanks!
