Subject: Lyr Req: Day is dying in the West -not Scout song From: katlaughing Date: 23 Jan 08 - 03:30 PM This was referenced in the memoirs of an elderly woman in Colorado. She said it went like this, what she remembers: Day is dying in the West, Heaven is touching Earth with rest. I don't see anything like that second line in the Scout song, plus she is with it enough, I think she would know it if it were the Scout song. Thanks! |

Subject: Lyr Add: DAY IS DYING IN THE WEST From: GUEST,Kevin Date: 23 Jan 08 - 04:05 PM Here are the lyrics DAY IS DYING IN THE WEST Words, Mary A. Lathbury, 1877. Music, William F. Sherwin, 1877. Day is dying in the west; Heav'n is touching earth with rest; Wait and worship while the night Sets the evening lamps alight Through all the sky. Refrain Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts! Heav'n and earth are full of Thee! Heav'n and earth are praising Thee, O Lord most high! Lord of life, beneath the dome Of the universe, Thy home, Gather us who seek Thy face To the fold of Thy embrace, For Thou art nigh. Refrain While the deepening shadows fall, Heart of love enfolding all, Through the glory and the grace Of the stars that veil Thy face, Our hearts ascend. Refrain When forever from our sight Pass the stars, the day, the night, Lord of angels, on our eyes Let eternal morning rise And shadows end. Refrain |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Day is dying in the West -not Scout song From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 23 Jan 08 - 08:31 PM Masato, two Scout possibilities- See lyrics to "All Night, All Day." The first line is often cited as the title, as Joe has done. Day is dying in the west, Angels watchin' over me, my Lord Sleep, my child, and take your rest, Angels watchin' over me. and &c. http"//www.tac-bsa.org/scouting_prayers.pdf The hymn's first verse only is suggested as a Scout campfire closing (lights out, get to bed, you little---), along with many other possible selections, in the following Scout site. Day is dying in the west, Heaven is touching earth with rest, Wait and worship while the night Sets her evening lamps alight, Thro' all the sky. http://usscouts.org/macscouter/Campfire/Closings.asp |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Day is dying in the West -not Scout song From: Mo the caller Date: 24 Jan 08 - 06:38 PM Q said "See lyrics to "All Night, All Day." The first line is often cited as the title, as Joe has done. Day is dying in the west, Angels watchin' over me, my Lord Sleep, my child, and take your rest, Angels watchin' over me. That sounds to me like two songs stitched together. I know it as - All Day, all night, Angels watchin' over me, my Lord (not sure how the third line goes), Angels watchin' over me. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Day is dying in the West -not Scout song From: Mo the caller Date: 24 Jan 08 - 06:46 PM Just found an old thread Angels watching That one looks like 3 songs stitched together The last two verses "Now I lay me down to sleep" were taught as a childs prayer, no chorus. And if there was a tune it wasn't the "All day, all night" one. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Day is dying in the West -not Scout s From: GUEST,.gargoyle Date: 24 Jan 08 - 07:53 PM Mary Ann Lathbury wrote Christian hymns - a quick search will retreave Sherwin's tune through "G"
