Subject: Origins: Tir na Nog by Leo Kelly From: PeadarOfPortsmouth Date: 25 Jan 08 - 08:27 AM I have an album that features a song called "Tir na nog" which tells the story of Oisin and Niamh. I know the story well enough, but I can't find any info on the songwriter credited - Leo Kelly. Is anyone else familiar with this song or the songwriter. If there are other versions of the song, that'd be great to know, but I'm also interested in seeing what other songs this Leo Kelly might have written. Cheers, Peter |

Subject: RE: Origins: Tir na Nog by Leo Kelly From: GUEST,marty Date: 25 Jan 08 - 08:49 AM Tir na n-Og were an Irish group comprising Sonny Condell and Leo O Kelly who released at least three albums between 1969-73 or thereabouts. To call them irishippyfolk would not do justice to the ravishing acoustic interplay between the pair & the charm of their songwriting. Both artists went on to have solo careers, Condell particularly and both reunite for the odd Tir na n-Og gig in Ireland. Their second album " A Tear and A Smile" is one of my alltime favourites. Google them for more info. good luck marty |

Subject: RE: Origins: Tir na Nog by Leo Kelly From: GUEST,kenny Date: 25 Jan 08 - 12:15 PM Their records quite often turn up on ebay, and I'm pretty sure one or more were released as CDs. John Peel had them on his show a few times, and I remember seeing them in Dundee opening for Jethro Tull. Pat Kilbride, formerly of the "Battlefield Band" did a fine version of their song "Tir Na Nog". |
