Article seen in the local newspapaer.

"Replica of historic ship draws the Crowds"

The Matthew (80ft)of Bristol is in Brighton Marina for the next couple of days.

The Matthew was the ship that took Cabot to the New World in Tudor Times.

I think I heard the Harry Brown Shanty men sing a song about this ship and Cabot at a Lancaster Maritime Festival a few years ago and I seem to recall that somewhere I have a cassette recording of this and other songs about Cobot and his travels.

Ssssshh.. don't tell Roger, he'll be up the rigging like a greased powder monkey!

Is this the replica that was built for a TV programme just to prove the journey could have been done? If so, it was damned interesting to watch, even though my usual interest in all things nautical (except perhaps, handsome cabin boys) is slightly less than zero.

Here's a link.

And Liz, 'handsome cabin boys' almost always turn out to be of the female persuasion!

I strongly recommend a look at Matthew, a great boat. And to keep up the Sussex nautical links, don't miss the Boat Band at the Royal Oak in Lewes, this Thursday, January 31.

Dave, how about hiring this for your birthday bash, or won't it be in Brighton long enough?

Valmai

The Argus said it was only around for a few days on its way to some other South Coast port.

However yours is a great idea but I don't think it will work.

She certainly looks cute!

I wonder if they do their own brewing aboard, or simply lump in barrels from the waterfront pubs.

Lift 'im up an' carry 'im along -
Fire, Maringo!
Fire 'im away! Ugh!
Lay 'im in the hold where he belong -
Fire, Maringo!
Fire 'im away!

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Charley there are no "pubs" as such in Brighton Marina. There are a few Gastro-Bars but thats about it.

They could however (if they knew how to go about it) truck some beer down from Harveys Brewery in Lewes.

Sussex Catters know this don't they?
