CAMSCO Music is pleased and proud to announce its first release under its own label: a 2-CD set "Tell a Story--Joe Heaney in the Pacific Northwest" The album was conceived as an opportunity to provide a companion recording to "Say a Song: Joe Heaney in the Pacific Northwest" (Northwest Folklife NWARCD 001, 1996). Both recordings draw from live performances by Heaney during his residence at the University of Washington School of Music between 1982 and his untimely death from emphysema on May 1, 1984. A phrase that he frequently uttered in both conversation and performance was abair amhrán, inis scéal ("say a song, tell a story"). The compilers of both volumes took these words to heart, allowing Heaney – through these two recordings – to do both. As a bonus, the Irish-language songs used in the stories are transcribed and included on the CDs as pdf files.

CD 1: The Older Stories
1. The Children of Lir
2. Stories about Fionn MacCumhaill
3. Fionn MacCumhaill and the Giant
4. Oisín's Journey to Tír na nÓg
5. Fionn MacCumhaill and the Lamb
6. Deirdre of the Sorrows
7. Stories from the Táin Bó Cuailnge

CD 2: The Newer Stories
1. The Man Who Married a Seal Woman
2. The Woman Who Pulled a Thorn from the Seal's Fin
3. Wren Stories
4. The Fairies Who Spun the Wool
5. How Cearbhaill Ó Dálaigh Got the Gift (includes the song, "Eileanóir a Rún")
6. The Three Good Advices (includes the song, "Peigín agus Peadar")
7. I'm a Catholic, Not a Protestant
8. Stories about Boats (includes the songs, "Óró mo Bháidín" and "The Queen of Connemara")
9. The Woman Who Fooled the Peelers
10. The Fairy Greyhound
11. The Two Hunchbacks (includes the song "Dé Luain, Dé Mairt")
12. Did the Rum Do?

Available from CDBaby ($25) or directly from CAMSCO Music ($22.50)

Wow! This is wonderful!   I put together a documentary on Joe Heaney a few years ago and "Say A Song" was a wonderful source. Good luck with this release, it sounds wonderful!

If you have PayPal, it's real easy--just order from dick@camscomusic.com

The 2-CD set is $25; shipping two sets via Priority Mail is $11 (all US dollars). If you can't do it with PayPal, you can send me a credit card number--for safety's sake it's best if you send two blocks of four digits in a PM and the remainder as an E-mail. Same URL

I received my copy and it is a goldmine!   I never had the opportunity to see Joe when he was alive, and these recordings are a marvelous introduction to the collection of stories and songs that Joe carried with him, and shared with others.

The tehnical aspects are superb - considering that these are field recordings, the overall quality is excellent and the stories are captivating.

I am sharing a cut on my Session show this Friday at noon ET on WFDU - I fell in love with the story of the Three Advices.
